well guys (and girls!),

i dont know how well this is going to sit with you guys but hey, i was told when i first joined here...."its your car mate so you do what you want to with it" so im going to. im going to take it for a remap!! been looking into it. at best its a gain of 10bhp, 12nm torque and a fair few mpg depending on what i specify. now i can hear you all yelling at your computer screens....... DONT DO IT. well i know its a fair wedge of money for what you fr and cupra drivers would call minimal gains. but i want to see what i can squeeze out of this little car. i know theres a fellow 1.2 driver out there who has got 80bhp out of his.

wish me luck on my long road to tuning this little beast! help and support will be much appreciated, criticism will be read and taken on board.....everyone has their own opinion!

What other mods do you have? A full exhaust system would realy help.

I would rather spend the money on handling mods myself.

Its your money and your car so you do as you wish mate :)

I've got myself a 1.2 and would really like to see what sort of gains you get out of this - GOOD LUCK!
As Damoegan said, a straight through exhaust would really help aswell IMO.

i dont think a remap is a bad idea if you have the money but my advise would be to consider other performance mods first before getting the remap ie full exhaust, intake system, even a high quality spark plug will make a tiny bit difference, it all adds up. this way when the remap is done it will be able to take full advantage of the mods.

tbh mate u have put forward a great post, and if u wanna do it then do it, reason were all so interested to see the gains is because everone who mentions it gets told not to and they dont, no one on here with a 1.2 has gone and done it that i know of, if it turns out ok then i would suggest full exhaust system and maybe an air filter. Just if u wanna oush the car to max, so be different and do it. i wanna see this.....good luck to you, and well played for sticking to your guns. How much is it gonna cost £250-£300

Some figures I found for a Polo 9N
"VW Polo 9N 1.2 64 before 64 hp after 70 hp before 112 nm after 122 nm"

I did see a site somewhere before with prices and figures for the Ibiza bt have no idea where, when or who!? [:@]

Good luck with the remap if your only going to gain 6bhp and 10nm....

As said above its your money. First I would concentrate on the other mods: performance filter or induction kit (to aid engine breathing in...) and a free-flow exhaust with sports cat (to aid engine breathing out...). These would probably give you the same gains as the remap again. :funk:

cheers for all your input guys, im one step ahead of you! look into getting a full exhaust made up (custom job) and already using a k and n panel filter. would do the exhaust before the remap. ive emailed asking for a quote for the remap. if i can get it for around 300 and no more i may well go for it. id have a chat with the technician and see what gains id be looking at with the filter and zorst already fitted. ive got my list of mods and schedule. so by july i want to have it all sorted. anyone interested just google ibiza 1.2 remap and get in contact with somee companies!!

thanks for the support!

I like your style, I was thinking the same. How much does such a remap cost, and how will your insurers look at this?

on the site it says the remap is untraceable, they dont tell you NOT to tell the insurance company but they do say normally it wont affect you premium.....whether this is true or not i dont know. but if the remap is untraceable (plus you can have it taken off and put back at any time for free) i would be inclined to forget to tell the insurance company......i would like to say however everything i do to my car is reported to my provider and they are fully aware :p !

Out of interest what sort of price are you going to be paying for it? I know someone with a 2.0 ibiza (mk4) that had it remapped and he only gained very similar to quoted above, about 6bhp, and he wasnt THAT impressed with the extra MPG or drive ability so took it back for a refund

im still waiting for a reply from a quote request. i think it depends who you get it done with, as ive read feedback that some companies (mostly the not very well known ones) who use pirate software etc... ive said to myself that if its more then 250-300 then i would have to think about what im getting from it all. its really just a project to see what i can get from this engine. you could easily spend twice the money of a remap on fr or cupra upgrade bumpers and having them sprayed, personally id rather spend it on this and see what i can do. i do agree that its a lot of money for little gains, but gains none the less. point noted tho :) il let you know when a price comes back.

I tuned up my old 1.2 16v SXI Corsa...started life as a 74bhp beast...after induction, fast road cams, manifold, sport cat, full system, remap...got about 98bhp lol
All depends what you're after, I spent a fortune for minimal gains....ouch.

Good luck to ya as you say it's up to you what you do, your money etc

just a thought before you do though, consider the cost and for the same what sort of upgrade handling and braking wise you could get for the same

as in rallying lower classes and limited power you can still shame a bigger better car with a well sorted chassis and braking setup

brakes upgrades and suspension are more costly tho? and the insurance will shoot up? or not? what are fast road cams when they are at home? my gf has the corsa 1.2 sxi 16v and i would dare to suggest that she can never get away from my ibiza....could be the driving tho :p id love to squeeze another 10-15 bhp from it but its the torque i really want! just to push the engine to its max potential. its a challenge in itself
