Hi all.

I have a 1.2 TSI and I get around 37-39MPG while doing a 5 mile trip to work and then 5 mile back. Even when doing a 15 mile trip I cant get higher than around 38, I do put my foot down when I'm not trying for fuel consumption but when I am driving nicely I dont put my foot down, follow the gear indicator on the way down not up tho.

What does everyone else get in thier 1.2 tsi?

I have 22.5 mile commute each way to work (country roads, motorway and congestion) and can get on average 44-48mpg, on a clear run (e.g. on Fridays, I can get 50-53mpg), so your current mpg figures seem pretty decent considering.

Driving calmly I get the same mileage as you in a 1.8 TSI 192 PS. I would expect you to do better. Have you tried reversing your approach to the gear change guide? I.E. change up (to a more efficient gear) when it tells you but hold on to a higher gear when coasting or going downhill. I used to have an obsessive boss who draughted behind lorries to save fuel - but I wouldn't recommend that! :headhurt:

That's also good to hear! I'll be happy with that! My dad has been telling me I can expect at least 10-15mpg less but he doesn't know what he's talking about ;)

Yes, I keep hold of gears up hill rather than changing and hold it in gear rather than coasting when coming off the motorway for example, I also do a lot of engine breaking on the motorway!

Fair enough. I think it must be something I am doing. I dont have stop start so traffic lights bring my MPG down by 0.1 every 5/10 seconds and then even when I just tap my foot on the accelarator it goes down. Going for a service this week at 20,000 so that might help it.

Mate the mpg you're getting isn't anything to worry about, doing a 5 mile journey your car will only be at optimum temperature for about 50% of the trip, plus it depends on your commute, it could be hilly with lots of stop/start

Hi all.
I have a 1.2 TSI and I get around 37-39MPG while doing a 5 mile trip to work and then 5 mile back.

Assuming city driving with traffic and many traffic lights and 20-30mph limits, that's not a bad figure.

I guess if you are driving on 30-50mph roads, you should get high 40s / low 50s average mpg.

37 mpg seems normal. I also have the 1.2 TSI My driving is around Town centres 20-30 speed limit and I get 37-41 mpg with Urban driving. 37 on a short urban commute, 40-43 on a longer urban commute, including short motorway hops (10 miles) . I get 42-48 on longer Motorway runs (over 50 miles) too.
