Our 1.2 is quite "hissy" with induction roar when blipping the throttle, and I noticed that the engine cover is a pretty loose fit over the throttle body.

Is this how it's supposed to be, or should there be some kind of seal there? It's always made the noise (4.5yrs old) but I drove it today and it seemed more noticeable than I remember.

It should be a quite a tight fit over the throttle body, there is a fairly thick rubber tube/seal between the metal of the throttle body and the plastic of the engine cover. Check to see what kind of condition it's in.

Thanks for comments - there's a definite "gulp" when you blip the gas, but it's not noticeable at steady speeds.
