Blackcountry Boy!
Quick question with regards to LCR oil type, sorry if this is something that comes up often but I need to put my mind at rest and couldn't find an answer using the search.

Checked my oil level yesterday and noticed that I was sitting at minimum on the dip stick, so not wanting to leave it and needing to drive the car, I went into Halfords to get some 5w 40 Fully Synthetic oil, they had none available in stock at the time, but a friend that was with me told me that 0w 40 Fully Synthetic oil would do the job as the 0/5 only referred to a lower operating temperature?

Anyway, I took said Friends advise and but some in to allow me to make my journey. The car is running fine.

I'd just like some confirmation that I haven't violated my engine in anyway by using the 0w 40 Fully Synthetic oil instead of the manuals recommended 5w 40 Fully Synthetic oil.

Thanks for any assistance in advance.

Jon

You'll be fine, just means it's a bit thinner at lower temps, which isn't a bad thing as it's not a massive difference to the quoted spec :)

Just bear in mind that thinner oil when cold will mean it will drain back into the sump quicker, so if you do a lot of short journeys with small gaps in between, give the engine time to get the oil flowing again before giving it full revs.
