I would say that theres still probably little in it against a 300bhp scooby etc once you consider AWD losses and the extra weight they're carrying, against a 250bhp Ibiza Cupra. 50+ that is.
Im sure some of the lads with 250 could maybe enlighten us a little..

I'd like to see the results :D

Autocar managed a 0-60 in 4.4 seconds with a 300bhp Evo 8.

340bhp ~ 4.2 seconds
400bhp ~ 3.5 seconds
580bhp ~ 3.2 seconds
680bhp ~ 2.79 seconds

It would certainly be interesting to see a K03s Cupra take on a 300bhp AWD car :) ... I lost faith in spending £2,000+ to get my cupra to the acclaimed 240bhp. Personally I think this will vary on which rollers you use ... I think the true figure will be less than 240

But I would certainly like to see someone with a ko3s, fmic, stage 2 and racing cat and all the other usual bits beat a 300bhp STi or a 300bhp Evo. I think keeping with a GT4 with 260bhp would be about the limit in all honesty.

Might be worth asking Revo Kev what he thinks about a K03s Cupra keeping with his TME :p

Notice I stated 50+ 0-60 is out of the equation.
Don't get me wrong, I know it isn't a world beater but i'm interested in the facts (I'm not saying it'll beat it) But I do think it'll be alot closer than you think.
Heck an Evo is on my list for my next purchase!

Yehh I did notice buddy ;) ... But I didn't want to change the thread direction too much. As cupra y706 wants to know like I did if he could have the joys of a AWD monster in his cupra.

I was prepared to spend my cash on a FMIC (£700+) Remap (£500+) K03s (£250 if your lucky with A&M) Brake upgrade (£400 - £1,000) Exhaust & DP (~£1,000) etc

This would cost me nearly / around £9,000 including the car. So it brings up the question in my head ... "Will my 230/240bhp cupra give me a thrill like the 300bhp STi/Evo?" and I think the answer is no. I enjoyed my standard Cupra for what it was and a Revo'd Cupra will give good bang for buck but spending the rest of the money seems a little OTT for what you get back.

He stated high power Jap cars and included the RX7 in this list too. The mean machines will do 0-60 in 5 seconds with 280bhp and with 300+bhp your in BIG trouble. And if your not infront of the RX7 by the time you get to 40/50mph you'll never beat him :(

Dont thinkive ever had a dabble with anything from 0
I'd rather see some 70-110 times than 0-60. That'll give a better picture

Yeah I see why you did what you did. But spread over 18months of ownership I found myself with just needing a KO3s for another 20-30bhp. And for the price It was going for it was silly to turn it down after spending 3k to get it where it is now.

Forget the 0-60 dash... 4wd motor will eat its clutch on a few standing starts.
as for feelign quick with 300bhp and 4wd, well they wont feel that quick with the extra weight they carry.

In gear acceleration, ie real world, will feel quite close and favour if anything the lighter car despite its lesser power.

Very much dpendant on the driver behind the wheel also....
some can extract more than others from the same package.

The likes of a TME also carries with it the running costs on fuel and servicing which are severe.
I like my ibiza which can do 30+mpg cruising and also knock on 400bhp when I feel the need.
(I wont even bother comparing on track performance as its not fare on scoobs or EVO's LOL )

In all honesty Bill your the exception to the rule.

Jonzy- I just answered that post (wasn't me). ;)

Those AWD monstors do eat clutches and need servicing twice a year with a silly 16mpg (if you drive like miss dazy) but there is no getting away from the fact the question was "Will a K03s Cupra keep with 300bhp Jap cars?"

As for driver ability I was taking into account the driver being exactly the same (just to make it a contest of cars) remeber this works both ways. I am sure a 300bhp Evo enthusiast/driver that races his 205GTi every weekend on Rally stages will beat a 19 year old boy who *thinks* he's a good driver in a 230bhp cupra.

Bill ... How much have you spent on your car to get 400bhp+? and how reliable is it to drive to work (e.g. 50 miles per day)? And I don't think a 300bhp STi is going to beat a 400+ bhp Cupra [B)] ... EVER.

But taking the most extreme Ibiza and the most extreme Evo in the country into account say E.g. Simon Norris in a 800+bhp Evo and Bill in a 400+bhp Cupra we again have a totally different kettle of fish.

The answer is a cupra with K03s / FMIC / remap / exhaust might keep with a GT4 / WRX but keeping up with / beating a 300bhp Jap car will require a different turbo. And then you need to keep in mind you have a modded car taking on a factory standard car. :(

^ thats what i am trying to work out, is it worth putting 3 grand into the cupra to get 240bhp or buy something with that standard, like the cupra nice car, quick, but not impressed with the handling, and i ve got coilovers.

I have seen the Norris designs monstor EVO at Combe... and yet to see it complete a day without expiring.. fast yep... reliable nope.

Not the post in question tho is it..

Always there's a faster car,
You can build a 400bhp 1.8T between £4K-£6K

I would hate to think how much has been spent on my car since its new purchase as my sensible road car... but its not for bang for buck its for fun and smiles. Ibiza's "should'nt" be as fast and its still a good laff to see expected fast cars humbled by such a small yellow spanish shopping car.

Will a K03s 230-240bhp ibiza humble a 300bhp Scooby? No... but it would keep it honest if driven well.

I was in your position 6 months ago mate. I had a LCR with Revo and it was good. When I sold it before depreciation hit it I got a Ibiza but missed the power ... I gave the K03s some thought and added up the costs and what power / Torque I could expect. Have a chat to people who have researched the whole thing. Ask them about FMIC's and ask them the rest of the components there are debates about it all.

I went out in the A&M ibiza when the FMIC was on trial with the K03s and yes I was impressed but I have also been out in a few STi / Evo / M3's to know what it's not really going to be in the same league. The only thing you have on your side is the Evo owner will look at you ... laugh ... think it's not worth wasting my clutch on ... races 0-30mph at 80% effort then has a surprise and does 30 - 90 at 100% effort just to show you what he has. He might flash his lights at you and may even give you the nod, but you'll never be giving him his a55 back to him on a plate.

I sold the Ibiza Cupra to get myself a another car that would be better for £9,000 and I came up with an elise. I've changed my mind for two reasons. 1 I might be applying for the police (Met/Avon) take a look at where I am based at the mo. 2 I've never wanted an elise so I'll wait and get an Evo when I can properly run it and mod it :D

Don't think I trying to cause an argument here but the honest answer is 'NO'. £6K cupra with £3k mods will not beat a £9k Evo 5 or a £9k elise ;)

But a Cupra with a £500 remap will show the Saxo/106 boys that a Turbo IS the way to go. But then they will argue that they'll beat you on the bends  ... So it's always going to be a never ending challange.

People on the Evo forum bang on about their £20k Evo beating £120k Ferrari's and then you have people with £9k Cupras keeping with Evo's and then you have £3k 106/Saxos beating Cupras on bends and £500 R5T beating 106's on the straight.

Scoobyzone track day on monday and a chipped mk4 golf 1.8T on its std k03s, fmic, zorst was passing EVO VI, Scoobs, and a Ferrari, so imagine a lighter ibiza with the same spec on the same conditions, driven the same. = faster again.

I've got a 253bhp Cupra with a k03s, i have tons of 1/4 mile slips, all ranging in the 13.8's. The car suprised me alot when i got it.

In all honesty i have taken on an
-m3 e46 from around 60 upwards (he was painfully slowly pulling away)
-m5 (the older type) that was a similar experience
- evo FQ, couldnt get past me from around 50 upwards...although i blame the fact it was a lady driving it! ( i dont doubt it could have beaten me before we get a bitching match from the guy wanting an evo)
- stripped out nissan silvia, had me from about 20 to 60 then he ran out of puff suprsingly

and my best triumph, which i couldnt really believe was a brand spanking new STi, he decided to race me from the lights...and to put it simply it was a complete embarassment...i felt like a tit...spun up...and he was a bout a mile down the road before i got to 2nd!.... later down the road i went past him at around 40 slammed my foot down, he followed, i then pulled in to the inside lane...and he couldnt pass me....just sat accelarating at exactly the same speed in the rear view mirror...i wont mention what speed i had to slow down at because a car was ahead....he clearly wasnt impressed...although i imagine his cocky mate that was laughing at my efforts from the lights wasnt either...(hope that answers your question daz, might want to add that ive got a hefty boot build in the back as well!)

have a look and see what 1/4 mile times standard scooby sti'd get...you will be very disappointed, especially with their quick 0-60 dash time

At the end of the day, you can take on some serious big boys with a k03s if its tuned well....because the fact is driver error/skill/quick gearchanges can make such a difference, i have lost to an old saxo vts once...when i f**ked up my gearchanges royaly...lol
