because seats are fwd the 0-60 means fook all matey, seriously, these days 4wd motors own 0-60 , its say, 30-70 and 50-100 etc that the seats excel.

I've yet to get mine off the line quickly lighting the tires even on a nice dry day..

There must be a nack to it, i haven't a clue though!

Agree with Brendy here, 0-60 is quite pointless. You'll get hammered by the AWD cars and even a TDi with it's low down torque will make you think twice about why you have a petrol car :p

I think it's best you look at 1/4 mile times and 30 - 70 times. How often do you come to a complete stop when having a go at some scoob/type r/clio sport?

At a guess I might say 6 flat

my old mk4 with all that spec got 6.3 to 60 at trax last year and that was an appalling start.

whats every ones opinion on a cupra with this spec against the likes of the high power jap cars, rx7, gt4, supra, mr2 turbo. would a cupra stand a chance.

Almost spot on, my timing gear registered 5.94sec to 60 last night with a wet launch. Took almost 5 attempts to get the balance

Yeah i would agree with Jonzy, mine hits 60 quite quickly high 5's low 6's but once moving would take on most things and give them a shock.

Would i be right in thinking you are from carlisle, if so seen your car loads up at my mates, i have the other yellow one in town.

i'm surprised its that quick actually. i'd have thought 6.4 secs

I think to get a 6.4 sec 0-60 you'd need either a fat driver and a full tank of petrol or a bad start.

Breaking 6 seconds 0-60 is pretty tidy I think. Best time of the year too. Roads are bone dry (sometimes) but the temp is still pretty cold for the intercooler :p

With a stripped out car (no back seat/AC/Spare Wheel/little fuel) and the mods as mentioned i think a 5.8 could be had?

But to answer 'cupra y706's question I would have to say NO.

Take a look at some vids on the net of RX7's taking Evo's apart

The GT4 is a very underestimates car and will beat a WRX up and won't be far behind an STi.

Take a look at the Supra take the Cosworth apart on the straights in Getaway in Stockholm. (no comment).

And the MR2 Turbo is a death trap in the wet but should still trip the cupra up and should kill it 0-60 due to being RWD and lighter

I didnt think it would, but then equally ive never been in one, i suppose quite possible, my mates Focus RS (when i was in it) raced against Turbo Boys Cupra, and there was nothing in it. And his RS had blue fin, straight through exhaust, Plus rob got a sh!t start... so yeah i guess late 5/early 6 is possible...

My dad has a celica GT4 and my cupra has Revo stage 1 and a BMC panel filter. launching side by side in 3rd gear we are side by side all the way through 3rd and 4th. he pulls away easily in 5th though and it would beat my cupra off the mark to 60 aswell i would think.

And what mods have the GT4 got? Your probably pushing 185/195bhp and he has 240bhp and can do a 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. That would probably add up about right. you have a lighter car and FWD where he has AWD 50bhp more but a heavier car and loosing more from fly to wheel due to the diffs ;)

If his car was 300bhp (modded) would you still stand a chance? [B)] Wouldn't say it was fair comparing a standard car to a remapped car.

My mate has a mk3 cupra with 201bhp and pulled alongside a GT4 from around 50 - 140 neck and neck. The GT4 is probs standard but not a bad result for the cupra IMO.

My dads GT4 has a cat back exhaust and a panel filter. no other mods, is also pushing nearer to 260ish BHP. some of the jap models varied between 240 and 265 according to the GT4 owners club.

i had a dabble with a scooby (unsure of spec but it had sti stickers?!) from a standing start (he was revving beside me at the lights so i assumed he wanted to have a razzle) i pipped ahead only just but as i started to change to 2nd he pulled along side and by the time i went for third he was a car and a half ahead but the fact that the ibiza held its own is the reason i still own one and thats with just revo an exhaust and fmic

Sounds a bit sus here.

tackleberry - To pip ahead whilst still in 1st againsts a WRX or an STi sounds like you were playing with an old man or a driver that was messing with you. No doubt he was surprised by your car but I am sure from 0mph that AWD car would have shown why AWD is so much better 0 - 40mph.

When I had my Revo'd LCR I had the same situation with an STi with dv etc (he was two up I was alone). His start 0-30mph in 1st was enough to make me think "Why am I bothering?" but 30 - 50 I was keeping with him and from 50 onward I was making on him, by the time we hit 80 on our 'track' I was in front by about 2 car lengths :D

As Daz said, if your looking to modify your cupra to keep with a standard 240 - 265bhp GT4 with AWD with a couple of grand you'll get there. But if he decided to go mental on his car then it's "Good buy Cupra" as you'll never keep with a 300bhp Jap AWD car  unless your name is Bill [B)]
