Hum, we are all very wise after the event! To be honest, I have always avoided messing with airbag wiring as I had read what can happen in the worst case, logging a fault is not the worst case scenario!

he didn't mess with the wiring, he just disconnected the connector. it's not dangerous if you follow the procedure.

But he didn't follow the procedure, actually what he did could be in the worst case scenario potentially fatal... removing the airbag without disconecting the battery 10 minutes before is very dangerous.

removing: disconnect negative terminal of the battery, wait 10 minutes and then remove the airbag and disconnect.

when installing we should connect and install the airbag, close all windows, put ignition on, then close all doors, and finally connect the battery, if the airbag explodes no one is inside the car...

myself I dont do the ignition on part though because I'm afraid it would damage some electronics... I'm just carefull when turning it on for the first time after removing airbag.

Yes but sometimes we can't avoid it.... I had to replace the steering wheel because of this:

there is many people removing the airbag not doing the correct procedure, I don't have knowledge of any case ending in an accident but I would not risk remove the airbag without disconecting the battery.

an airbag exploding out of the steering wheel is very dangerous. it can go 30m...

also if you don't have vcds to reset it you are in trouble.

curiosity: I had once an airbag ligth because I removed that component that has the central lock buttons, ESP, AUX etc... without removing the battery

the only way to remove it was to use VCDS.

@Paullem90

are you trying to reset the errors with the engine running? I'm almost sure it will only work with engine off and ignition on.

I got rid of the code myself. Brought a bluetooth device from amazing call carista. Cost 35 pound for the device then 9 pound for a weeks access to do anything on it. Great Little product, shame it's a pay as you use product.

Could be worth sending them an email asking to join the beta program, you then get access to it all for free whilst your part of the beta program! I joined it and you get some extra features too (tho i havent used it yet as friend has the carista adapter!)

Got an android but it works with iPhone too. Had to pay £9 on top of the £35 for access to pro features for a week tho:(.

A bit late now but you would have been better off getting the basic version of OBDeleven (website HERE) for less than you paid with no ongoing subscription charges like Carista charge. You only pay for credits to use the One-Click-Functions ("Apps") but most functions only require 10 credits per use and you can earn 5 or 6 free credits per day just by clicking on ads. You get 10 free credits when you purchase OBDeleven which would have been enough to reset your airbag light. Not much help for you now unfortunately but this information may be helpful to others who have an Android device.

I think the Carista charging model is a complete rip-off. Unfortunately iPhone users have no other real option but I would be surprised at anyone choosing Carista over OBDeleven if they are using an Android device.

Yes I agree wrt Carista, I'm lucky as I joined the party early in buying Carista really only as a scan tool to carry with me at all times, but it is very useful for folk that have little or no technical ability but feel the need to personalise their cars, even I have been lazy and used it to make some small changes as opposed to doing it the harder and more interesting way using VCDS, even VCDS has changed their pricing model, which might suit someone with only 3 cars for a long period, but les use to anyone who likes helping friends play with their VW Group cars! I will need to have to think about which option of VCDS to buy when I upgrade in the next few years.
