mate. i dont know why the coolant was empty :O the mechanic who replaced the coolant sensor drained the system and put new coolant stuff in there (was well before november of last year i had that done)

i guess you have the melted fuse issue that plagues these car (even though i never got that )
if you open the engine bay and open the cover ontop of the battery there should be 3 fuses there. the one furthest on the right hand side is the fan fuse. this is a common problem that SEAT know about yet did nothing.

just been out to see the car which is about half an hours drive away at the side of the road, the fuse was well and truley melted, so we tryed getting the melted one out, and put in the only spare one we had which was a 15amp rather than a 30amp one, however the fans still arnt working, so every half a mile the coolant reaches full temp and starts boiling.

when boiling over, is the coolant ment to leak out of the expansion bottle or is that where its leaking from?
as my dad says there may be an overflow valve on the bottle?

arghh bad day

yeah you need a 30 amper in there pal! theres your problem, and it will leak as its a pressurised system its for safety otherwise it will explode :)

right well, got some 30amp fuse wire in there, as the fuse box still as bits of melted fuse stuck in so couldnt fit a new fuse in, managed to drive the car back, very nervously, but the temperature didnt go over 95ish so that was okay, however my and dad don't think my fans are working, as they didnt seem to come on, and wernt on when i pulled onto my drive either. would the fuse have melted due to a dodgy fan assembly?

cheers for the helpful replies though boys, at least ive got the car home :)

Same as mate never had it happen, benny there is always an underlying problem if a fuse blows so you will need to get that fixed! I live in the south east if your near me I will help you out

cheers for the offer for help mate, may be in touch at some point

just been to kings seat in southampton and they said a new fusebox bit will be £51 and will take 3 days to come in

seems a bit steep for just a little plastic box, anywhere else i should try first?

right, took the car out for a gentle test drive this evening, got bout 20 minutes into the drive, with temp sat bang on 90 all the way, when all of a sudden it starts creeping up quite quickly, so just about got home as it touched 110 ish, and turned it off. my worry is that the radiator fans wern't running when i pulled in at home, again. at what temperature would they normally kick in, and is there a way of testing them to make sure they work? thanks again

my fans kick in when it just creeps over the 90, and i mean only just creeps over, so i think your fans may have had it, dont quote me on this, just wait and see what the others say, i know how you feel with the being a student, fixing car all the time problems!!

if your knowledgable with cars you could bridge the fan to be permanantly on, that would show if its working or not! not sure how to bridge it on yours as im not sure what wires are on there!!

Always a chance the T/Stat is gone, when the engine is running at 90 degrees put your hand on all the coolant pipes and see of there all hot! Also have you bled the cooling system properly??

Change the fusbox first!!

If you've just rammed fuse wire in there there's every chance it's big making a contact due to how small the wire is!

I doubt very very much your fans are bpken.

You know you need a fusebox for sure so get that and try it before worrying as that's what my money is on!

latest update, the fans work if i put the aircon on, which keeps the temperature at 90, but without the air con they do not come on automatically at all, so thinking its some sort of temperature switch has gone?

also gave in and ordered the replacement fuseholder off seat, gunna be here by friday thats another £51 down haha

all good fun
