Battery Woes

Hi all.

I've been away on holiday for a week, so I put the Boc in a garage for safekeeping.

I returned to collect it today, only to find the battery had died. The remote unlocking wouldn't work, the motor to release the boot made a faint noise, and didn't release the boot. No lights came on on the dash when turning the key, the LCD display flickered dimly and the engine didn't even attempt to start.

Fortunately, a call to SEAT dispatched an AA man, who managed to get the car started. He ran a battery test using a handheld device thing, which reported a battery fault, so his report suggests I take it to the dealer. The alternator checked out fine. We couldn't come up with a reason for the battery being flat. The only suggestion that didn't involve a dud battery was maybe the boot wasn't properly shut, and the light was left on, but I have no way of confirming this now...

I don't really have a point to this story, only that I'm disappointed that this is the second problem I've had with my Boc in the 2 months I've owned it

. Thank heavens for warranties. I'll post back what the dealer says about the battery.

Now my wife has been having battery issues with her 1.2 mk5. If we go away for more then a week, the battery is flat when we get home.

Have had the AA out 3 times and they can never find a drain on the battery. Have taken it to Seat and they cannot find anything either. Have arranges to leave it at the dealers when we go away next.

quick question, if your battery is flat on a boc, how do you get the boot open to jump the battery? theres no key hole. or am i being stupid???

Battery is under the bonnet, which is released in the passenger footwell.

However, you do bring up a problem I did encounter but didn't really mention. With a dead battery, I couldn't get into the boot. If there was something important in there, then what would one do?

Yeah mine happen 2 weeks ago. Left it for a week battery was dead. Took it to seat, can't find a problem. Hmmm

Wtf my batterys in the boot! Am i missing somthing here lmfao. Inbetween the spare wheel hahaha im ****ed if it dies!

Its a boc btw and a my11 model. Guess it helps to spread the weight out abit

Just to let you know my wife had exactly the same problem with her Mk5 1.6 whenever we went away on holiday and this time the AA man said it was the battery but when we phoned the dealer to see about a new battery under warranty they said that it's been recognised as a fault and booked the car in for adjustments to be made.
Apparently there is some system within the car that switches off when you stop and is not meant to activate again until you next use it but for some reason it has been switching itself on and off and over time drains the battery!

Obviously not on all the time and therefore doesn't show as a drain when the AA do their tests. Anyway the car has been in and had the modification so only time will tell!
The wife did say it's also seems to have to cured a slight lumpiness in tick over when stationary at traffics lights etc. I assume this may have been caused when the offending system was switching itself on and off?

So get on to your dealer and ask them to look into it, if they still deny it phone Bartletts Seat in Hastings as they were the ones that sorted my wife's car out!

Hi everyone i am a newby to this forum but i have been having problems with the battery on my Seat Sc for 2years i have called the AA out on numerous occasions.The car has been back to the dealer.I have phoned Seat UK up and the case is ongoing.Seat have said there is a computer glitch on the car and a download patch will solve the problem.But you have geussed it.Every time i phone the garage up they tell me the server is down and they are unable to to install the patch on the car.So i am Stuck.Here is a simple test.Leave the car to stand for two days,open the car using remote key,do not put the key in the ignition but turn the the radio on using the left hand button were the cd player is.If the batttery is running low.The radio flashes up "BATTERY LOW"If enough people complain SEAT will have to do something.In the mean time i will call my dealer up on monday and refer to the previous postI still love my SEat though

I have a seat Alhambra and have had most of the common faults air cone etc... but today I went to check the rear sensors and the battery was flat. The battery is no more than 18 months old so should be in good condition. Now after jumps starting the car and doing the school run I locked and left the car for 15 mins and when I returned to the car the radio/sat nav system was on ?? when I got home I turned the car off and the radio shut down, normal ... then a few seconds later turns back on, no key in the ignition. Now reading some other threads this could be an issue with other seats, I now have to wait and make sure the radio is turned off manually before locking the car, could this be the cause of your flat batteries ????

Well to day i finally nailed seat down and my Seat SC is going into the garage fotr the fifth time on Tuesday in relation to the battery going flat.Seat Jenning middlesbrough have told me they will need the car for Two days as the cars Software has to be remapped????? On the whole they have been good as i did not buy the car from them .i bought it from seat Darlington who i thought were abismal at customer care.Lets hope this does the trick as iwill be leaving the car at Newcastle airport for two weeks,,,,,Last time i had to call out the AA as the battery was so flat i could not open the doors with the remote.
Iwill keep everyone informed so they can get this "cure" if their car suffers from the dreaded flat battery or if they dont want the hassel of dealers buy a Battery Solar Charger from Maplins £10.

Car wouldn't start again this morning, had to get a lift into work.

I'm in negotiations with the dealer about getting my car to them to look at. We'll see what happens...

My sis has a 1.2 mk 5 too,they were away on holiday last week,so I was back and forth to their house.Went to start the car on Friday and it had dead mans click.Luckily my sis has a set of jump leads in the house.It had sat for only 5 days before me starting it.Its a 5 door on a 58 plate.
