I've got this annoying wobble / vibration through the steering at the moment on my Cupra and would appreciate some pointers on what to check / replace!!

The steering vibrates / wobbles fairly constantly and noticably from 40mph upwards, most pronounced at 70-75mph. When I accelerate hard it's quite bad and the car seems to vibrate too. I run 17's and these enhance the wobble / vibration, if I go back to my 16's it's there but not as bad. I have changed wheels as you can see, swapped my 17's from front to back, had them balanced and it's still there.

It's annoying as when having a bit of fun all I get is vibration and it's off putting as well. Vibration seems constant and regular, not irregular so it sounds like a rotation thing rather than a bush or mount, as they can be irregular on noises / movement. Ibiza has done 106k miles.

Things I think it could be are:

1. Drive shafts / couplings
2. Dual Mass breaking down
3. Wheel bearing (Car has never had them replaced)

Now I'm not sure it is dual mass related, as it is still there when I dip the clutch, but feeding power makes it worse so who knows!

Any other ideas what to check or has anyone had something similar??! :help:

Thanks guys..

drive shafts could be buggered, front discs warped, when you brake hard do you feel the peddle go up and down under your foot ?

Hey Rob, no it's not discs as there is no braking judder and have also just had new discs and pads. I'm thinking driveshafts too you know, but just after some other opinions first before swapping them... Cheers for the input :)

I think wheel bearing would whine before it caused steering vibration

Driveshafts could be the cause

Would say uneven tyre wear but if it does it on another set of wheels then i guess not

My saxo had a buggered drive shaft which caused a violent wheel wobble, so it could be the driveshaft

Had this with my mr2, stick on wheel weight had come off and wheels needed rebalancing. ide go for cheap option first and try that myself about £5 a wheel for balancing i believe

Sorry i didnt realize you had tried different wheels must have missed that bit. Sounds like drive shaft to be honest but i wouldnt put money on it. strange one that is.
