I've been looking at getting a new Alpine headunit and also looking at buying a USB interface to go with it so I can load some songs onto a USB memory key or such and get music that way.

After doing a little search I found this headunit on eBay and it looked fairly decent and very well priced...

So I thought before I go and buy one I'd do some research, reviews - look on third party websites etc then I found something strange.

If you search Google for "CDA-9884E" it is only eBay auctions that come up ... nothing on third party websites, no reviews.

Just seems very strange that a decent headunit it selling so cheap but only on eBay?

What do you folks think of this?

Alpine CDA-9884

Hi Guys,

Don't worry, the headunit DOES actually exit.

I have purchased many items from Hong Kong and China from eBay and they have ALWAYS arrived perfectly. They often package the good much better than reputable online shops.

Take a look here:

http://www.alpine-europe.com/index.php?id=cda-9884r
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=CDA-9884

The unit looks great, and the end number looks as if it reflects the display colours.

I am seriously think about buying one from ebay as it is only a little over £150 and a 8GB USB stick is peanuts nowdays.

I hope this helps.

Mark:rolleyes:

Nice one, thanks Mark. I've never had problems getting anything from Hong Kong myself.

I'd like to know what it's like for browsing through music, and is that display anyways going to be black/white - looks rather basic.

It doesen't have RDS either - not important really but its a basic thing they could have added.

The RRP is $230 - or about £120 so it's not as if he's selling it that cheap.

My g/f has got the 9882, I have the 9885. They both have a very similar way of scrolling through music which is very intuitive, ESPECIALLY with a full-speed Ipod connection. The jog wheel is pretty sturdy and useful, but it can be time-consuming trawling through my 80gb Ipod searching for the right tune - everything bar the 'search' and 'shuffle' options seem to work so you can scroll by artist, genre etc.
