Any problems encountered with Fabia rear wiper convertions??

Whatcha

Just been and purchased the Fabia rear wiper blade/arm etc from Skoda stealer in Newbury... Guy at the parts desk says, 'are you putting that on that Leon?' I of course say 'yup'.

'Can't do that' he says - 'at high speed it will start to lift and the upper cover will break off. We had a recall on Octavia's when they first had them and we had to fit your type of wiper.'

Told him I hadn't heard of any issues but I would speak to you knowledgable bunch on the forum and see if you'd experienced it.

Any takers or is he talking out of his ringpiece?

Warren
PS: Do the new Octavia front aero wipers retro fit onto the Leon

Recalls are only done for safety critical components, or problems with Type Approval compliance (eg emissions) so there's no way in hell they'd do a recall for a rear wiper - if front wipers developed a habit of popping off they might!

Assuming he was suggesting they've issued a technical service bulletin whereby anyone complaining or bringing a car in for service with a clear fault would have it fixed FOC, you'd think they'd withdraw the parts to stop further faulty ones going onto vehicles?

As you can probably gather I suspect it's cr@p!

Mine was fine, but jumps around the rear window unless window is full of water. Think it's a combination of it's been on for a while (blade needs replacing) and I probably overtightened it! Much better than the standard fit :)

no problems with me also, 135 on a bypass, wiper nice and stable, are u sure you wernt talking to a contract cleaner impersonating a dealer ? I have heard of Skoda dealers taking the hump about selling parts for other cars, god knows why.

Just go back and say give me my god damn wiper !

i did take it away with me to fit tonight, but i think they were more miserable that a browsing customer was looking around my car whilst I was waiting so they may be up the road at SEAT dealership next!

I did check out the new Octy front aero wipers though and they looked a close fit for the Leon - are people still using the Passat ones chopped down???

No problems here either. 135 on my "private section" of the M62, no noise, wobbling, lifting or anything. Been abused for a few months now and not a squeak of trouble... maybe they are just sick of peeps with Leons cominf in and buying parts ;)

if this is true wouldnt all the octavia have the leon type wipers? is this the case?

also am i missing something, your fitting fabia bits not octavia's...???

Now I'm really confused - I am fitting a Fabia rear wiper / associated parts to replace the std one on my LCR.

I saw the new Octy and wondered whether its aero wipers would retro fit on my LCR as I hate the standard front wipers. Had aero wipers on my 51 plate Lupo GTi 3 yrs ago so can't believe the LCR still has the antiquated ones!!

Maybe I'm not making sense!

I think it was a reference to what the Guy at the Seat Stealers said:

No problems here. Even after 125+ mph it's still there.

sorry, woken up now!! Supposedly the fabia aero rear wiper used to be used on the back of the old stylie octavia (didnt say which variant - hatch / estate) - so he expected it not to work on the leon either. hence why he discussed it from an octy perspective.

sounds like it will be fine though, now just need to wait for Valeo to make some retro fit aero fronts!
