Hi All

I need some quick advice please, I was driving home when my ECP light came on the car lost a little power, running a bit rough and mainly hunting for idle.
The OBD reader is coming up with

1) 16396 BANK 1 Camshaft A, Advance setpoint not reached
2) 16706 Engine Speed Sensor G28

Im thinking the sensor has gone right? anyone know where this sensor is and if its an easy fix, any videos??

I managed to clear the fault and started the car, was it a blip or change the sensor???

Any help really appreciated.

So, the car broke down after about 15mins and wouldn’t start for ages. After a while it started and I got her home.

i decided to attempt the sensor, wasn’t where I thought it was and was a bit of a pig to get to without moving a lot of pipe work and the oil filter. I managed to replace it though without disturbing too many bits.

The ECP light has gone out and the car started first time. Fingers crossed all fixed.

So an update

The G28 sensor has been fixed, no ECP light.

However the engine management light has come on, when I run the OBD reader it is showing the 17544 System too Lean warning.

It is still on the original MAF sensor since 04 and the other culprits seem to be the PCV air split pipe thing, I've no experience with looking for air leaks at all.

Can someone provide some guidance on what I should do next please??

Check all the rubber pipes underneath the front of the engine, and on the right hand side.
They may be a split, or even if there isn't, anything that feels like plasticine will need changing. Creations Motorsports have all the silicone versions and there are diagrams on their website.

Hi alexis

thanks for that, I’m struggling to see a diagram of the engine and pipes tbh, can you post a pic?

can I check the pipe work from the bonnet or is the car going to be needed up on the ramp?

is there any point changing the MAF sensor, obviously that is an easy fix but I don’t need to waste money if there is almost no chance of it being the problem?

edit

so i have an OBD reader, is there a way to check the running of the MAF sensor? ive heard you can run the car with the MAF disconnected and look at the mixture settings. I’m not sure quick how to do that though and what settings they should be.

Disconnect the battery for a while and reconnect due to changing the sensor... i had todo that just changing one of the folding mirrors. also a old thread on same issue you had https://www.seatcupra.net/forums/threads/engine-speed-sensor-g28.331128/
Thanks Nam

I decided to buy a new MAF sensor anyway, they are getting hard to source and its over 20 years old.

Ill disconnect the battery change the MAF and reconnect. hopefully will reset both the G28 and MAF. I've got a smoke test booked as well in case.

Not wrong, euro parts use to stock the OEM I looked a while ago and it was hard to find one then.. every time I change oil ect I take that maf out of the housing and clean it with electrical contact cleaner and housing ..

yea hope that works

Try this https://www.hydra-int.com/petrol-power-blast.html i use there additives as im on Diesel and they work well after using other brands over the years and they are not a one shot solution as its concentrated

All the pipes can be accessed from the top of the engine. It's the pipes that connect to the rocker cover and the pipes under and around the inlet manifold.
