Replaced the DSG shift knob. The black interior could use a little spice, and this was exactly what it needed.

Hmm, have gone down a rabbit hole after seeing the engine bay mods and found this Golf R lower engine cover:

Looks a lot tidier than the bare inlet manifold.

From what I can make out online the cover comes with the ball joint and grommet to screw into the manifold to hold it in place.

Looks a lot tidier than the bare inlet manifold.

Might order one when I'm back home next week...

Looks much tidier in fairness! The bare inlet manifold is quite ugly

I also have this on my list, looks like a great solution

I am guessing you will have to make a small adjustment to allow for it to sit down fully.

Attached in the back of the cover, the bottom half is the bit that touches the current engine cover.

I would have said I’d take a photo with it fitted, but @tracktoy ’s pic shows it perfectly! Looks good @tracktoy ,pity you couldn’t keep it on, as it looks great with the air intake…dammit, was looking at R600 intakes today…no, no, no, no!
Yes Yes Yes, you know you want to, Had one fitted many many years ago

You are a bad man, I love the OEM look of that R600 setup!

I'm in the middle of upgrading my rubber fetish and mask-wearing gear at the moment (see my avatar for avoidance of ambiguity!), specifically the air supply, so would need to choose between lungs or combustion chambers if I were too tempted by the R600 :ROFLMAO:

In all seriousness, how much louder is the R600 over stock? I like the quietness of the standard setup as I do long motorway journeys, so wouldn't want a racing theme tune or drone when cruising, but would like a little more 'excitement' when putting the hammer down. And, does it offer any real performance improvements over stock? My intention is to go Stage 1 remap when the car's out of warranty, so am guessing this would be a complimentary piece of hardware?

Thanks,

Nick

Didn't think of trying them :(, did that include postage?
Postage not included, but they are my local dealer, and the car's going in for it's MOT on Monday so will pick it up then, along with the funnel washer bottle filler cap.

I did find this on eBay before contacting them first though:

I don't think adding £5.80 for postage is unreasonable...it would cost me more in time, fuel and wear-and-tear on the car if I weren't going to the dealer anyway!

It has been a very long time since I had the R600 but from memory its the same as stock from a noise perspective.

This box is the best for performance but I fitted it at the same time as going Stage 1 so was not possible to identify it gave extra power (if it does it will be a small amount) however it will give a better airflow to the turbo so will help with how the car performs I am sure.

These are not cheap bits of kit but I personally purchased second hand off ebay and was very happy to save a few coins.

Inside the box on mine was an open cone filter but obviously its fully enclosed so you dont get the whoosh of a normal open cone setup.

Hope that helps.
