2.0 TSI reliability

Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a SEAT Leon FR+ 2.0 TSI 2012 and I've heard these engines have some issues with using up oil, timing chain, piston rings.

I'm just wondering if anyone has a similar year and how reliable has it been for them? Since all I can see on the internet is horror stories about them being the worst engines VAG has ever produced.

I bought a 2011 back in 2020, I also heard a lot of stories and all the extra bs about these engines, a lot of people have been making comments in general from a non owner perspective, they just repeating what other people are saying. Issues have occured to people, but nowhere near the amount it was blown upto, I still own mine, it does drink a bit of oil, but thats a small price to pay, from what I have read up on it, its a normal thing, and it isn’t something to worry about, unless it is drinking 1 litre per 1000km.

In terms of overall engine reliability, as long as you stay on top of consistent maintenance, you’ll be fine, its about as reliable as any car, its definitely not the way it has been made out to be online, kinda like how the fn2 type r receives a lot of hate from people who have never owned one.

I have just done 40k miles since I got mine

Oh sweet, I knew it felt a bit out of proportion, I’ve had a 1.9tdi for a few years and got the itch for a turbo petrol and the Leon really caught my eye. What MPG do you get roughly?

Averages between 28-34mpg in general, if you are going all out full speed, you can get it down to 16/18mpg ish, and if you drive very casual, you can get between 36-40mpg.
