So, on a few occasions I’ve been reversing out of a thin driveway and the manoeuvre braking slams on and sounds like I’ve hit something bit it’s just been fussy about the hedge.

roll on a few weeks ago and I actually reversed in to a car (accidentally and I’m at fault admittedly) but why didn’t it kick in then?!! £1100 damage to my car. I’m kicking myself (only dink I’ve had driving in 15+ years) but I’m also wondering why it didnt slam the brakes on for me?!

anyone else experienced?

Reactions: Seriously?
Is something disabled in the Assistant menu?
Nope, all were on as per usual when the car is re-started. I only ever occasionally turn off lane assist but that was also on as was only just reversing out of my drive.

Manoeuvre speed does play a factor, below a certain speed the car will not brake automatically so if you hit something at low speed and 'keep going' then damage can be done (I'm not saying you did this!). I now manoeuvre very slowly reversing onto my drive having experienced this many times, although I think the mileage stated is slightly incorrect.
From handbook -
"Depending on the equipment, if the Parking
Aid is active, the braking while manoeuvring
function activates emergency braking when it
detects an obstacle in the vehicle’s path that
could cause a collision, driving forwards or in
reverse.
The function will not brake if the Parking Aid is
activated automatically. For the system to
operate, manoeuvring speed must be between
3 and 8 km/h for both the front and
rear zones."

Hmm, makes sense, maybe I was going too slow?! But the damage looks like I was going fast ? the light is £700!!!!! Now I’m tempted to reverse super fast to see if it works (obviously I’m not going to but I’m curious!). What a pain in the backside. A stupid mistake. At least it can be fixed and no damage to the other car!! (Old style defender). Thanks
