Brake pads

I’ve had squeaky brakes for the past 6 months, recently had both back brakes and rotors replaced which I thought would help as they were very worn and the noise squeak hasn’t reduced at all. Another garage I asked suggested it’s likely the quality of the brake pads so I’m wondering what’s a good set I should have in future. I’ll put up with it for now until I need to replace again

Is it definately the back that's squeaking? Usually some paste on the shim plate or caliper pins sorts that. I've got Brembo pads on at the moment and they don't squeak at all. Previously I've had Pagid and Ferodo.

Probably the front as they’ve not been changed unless it’s something else related to it, I don’t know anything myself

Do some braking with someone witnessing/listening to the braking from the footpath - to see if they can confirm if its front or rear? Sometime easier outside the car to narrow down where the sound is coming from.

As for what to get - I would generally recommend the genuine OEM pads - I can often find them for similar price to some of the overpriced aftermarket brands.
For aftermarket pads, I would be looking for the brands who actually make the friction - as apposed to brands who make the brake system - brake system manufactures don't make the pads for their calipers, friction manufactures make the pads.

It's very unusual for the pads themselves to be the cause of a squeal. It's usually an instillation issue. It's also usually the front. Unless the pads were very cheap, then all bets are off.

I went with TRW OEM replacement pads and disks on mine. Apply a thin coat of grease to the back of the pad, as well as where the pad slides in the caliper. I'm talking plastilube by Ate (Continental brake system brand). This is thick and sticky, not thin and runny.

You don't need to/shouldn't apply grease to the back of any pads which have rubber composite shims.
Only need to lightly grease metal on metal contact points on the edges of these pads.
TRW are the OEM brake caliper manufacture for the 288/312mm brake - but they don't make any OEM pads - you can see the OEM pad manufacturer in this example is Jurid.
TRW pads sold in the red boxes are purely aftermarket pads.
Same applies to the other big brake system/caliper brands, Brembo, Conti, Bosch etc..

You're absolutely correct. I didn't actually mean that my replacement pads from TRW are OEM, rather they are replacements for OEM. Misleading wording most likely.

I've got these on the rear:

And these on the front:

They perform as good as OEM pads, but they stink when they're very hot. But I couldn't care less about that.
