What is it?

The Anniversary Limited Edition is celebrating 40 years of the iconic SEAT Ibiza. It’s a one-off edition with some extras not available in other trims within the model. Has SEAT given the SEAT Ibiza what it deserves for its 40th birthday? Read on to find out.

Verdict
The 1.0L engine in this car is nippy, reliable and fun.
For anyone looking for a little run about or learning car this is a great choice, for those like me who have loved the Ibiza from the get go this seems like a mild disappointment as a special edition, it doesn’t feel as special as it could have on the appearance front. Still a good car, but could have had a bit more love given to it by SEAT.

What the Ibiza deserves is making one with the 1.5 TSI engine available, hardly any Ibizas with that engine made it to the UK (lots to elsewhere in Europe, though), but would make a great "warm hatch" alternative to the 2.0 TSI engined VW Polo GTI, and be cheaper to run and insure than the latter and in a better looking car design.

I'd love to see the 1.5 TSI turn up in the ibiza, it would get plenty of power for a car this size.

Well they have already done that for the Ibiza 6F, so it's definitely technically possible, I don't know why they didn't make that version more available in the UK. Am not 100% sure if you can still get a 1.5 TSI Ibiza in mainland Europe, but there are certainly lots on the road there.

1.5 TSi certainly shows as being available in certain trim levels on the German SEAT configurator.

A collaboration with Porsche for the 40th Anniversary would have been amazing and a nod to the original. Imagine Porsche styling cues 'wheels, body kit etc) or even better the 1.5tsi but tuned by Porsche, that would have been pretty radical and absolutely phenomenal. Could have priced it similar to a Yaris GR and I bet it they would have sold an absolute load of them.

With the Swatch Omega X tie up for moon watches - which has proved a success mixing 'high street' with 'high end' brands. I agree it would have been a highly sought after car and a partnership which would raises awareness of another brand. VAG politics would have probably seen it killed off as a suggestion though!! Personally, I felt the 40th Anniversary was not great overall spec wise and ended up ordering a Excellence Lux DSG due early next year.

In Spain, we also have the option of ordering the 1.5 150 HP engine, I have a quotation for both the 1.5 and the 1.0, anniversary edition.

Well, the 115hp costs 20.078€ and the 150hp 24.640€.

Have in mind that the 1.0 has manual gear, meanwhile the 1.5 is the automatic dsg7, that's why costs 4.600€ more the 1.5

I don't know if 24k € for an Ibiza is worth but it seems quite high.

So why don't they sell the Ibiza with the 1.5 TSI in the UK FFS!
I think we asked when the car first came out and was told they didn't feel the market was there for it here.

When the current shape (pre-facelift) VW Polo model range was launched back in 2017, it initially included a 1.5 litre 150 bhp engine and 7 speed DSG in R-Line trim only. However, it was very quickly removed from all UK promotional literature and price lists - from memory, this happened before order books actually opened. Similarly, the Polo GTI was to be offered with a 6 speed manual gearbox in the UK, but that never materialised either.

I did wonder whether the decision not to bring a 1.5 Polo to the UK was emissions-based, in order to manage average CO2 emissions of VW’s UK Polo model range. Or maybe VW felt there wasn’t a market for such a model in the UK in the same way that Seat didn’t see a market for a 1.5 Ibiza. There was certainly lots of interest in the prospect of a 1.5 Polo on the Polo forum.
