So recently after picking up my "new" car I noticed it was empty with regards oil. Or basically near empty.

Popped the right amount in to keep me going until I picked up all the service bits for her.

Alas a month later the missus tells me it's asking for oil and check oil level now.

It was indeed again empty.

After a bit of a root I noticed this big oil spray

I'm just wondering what is it that has leaked?

Can't seem to find the part or seal online weather it be a crank seal or a oil reserve or what.

There was a bolt missing from where is circled and have put a temporary bolt in its place after a semi oil fill.

Any advice appreciated please so I know what I need

I don't think there was ever a bolt in that hole - the cover only has 4x bolts holding it on, and that hole is outside the rubber gasket.

This is the inside of that cover = 04L 109 283 C

Ah okay. So it's a camshaft cover. Odd that the hole is threaded all the same. So I take it there's a seal on the inside which probably needs replacing. 😮

You can see the seal on the image I shared:
I guess that spare hole is just for a bracket/clip on some other variant this engine goes in.

For that cover to be leaking, I would be looking at over pressurisation of the block as the root cause - which could be caused by the PCV valve. red circle below: though the cover isn't expensive and simple to replace.
There isn't a part number listed by VAG for the PCV diaphragm - they just list the whole rocker cover!
Some sellers have the valve on ebay etc.. but you need to remove the right hand injector to replace.
Did mine a few months ago and think it has helped a little with my oil consumption.
