Centre light bar cracked

Hi

Had my car in for a service today and told them I've had some water leaking into boot when I open it.

I hadn't thought to look at the lights, which as the dealer (SG Petch Durham) identified, were cracked and taking water in.

It's a lease car, which I have a maintenance cover for, but they're refusing to cover the costs as it is apparently "user error".

The cracks are along the length of the light bar, seemingly concentrated in 4 areas. The cracks also seem to coming from inside as I can't feel any cracks externally, and there is no damage whatsoever to the surrounding bodywork.

My question is, should this be covered under SEAT warranty? The dealer quoted me +£400 (and also a broken rear washer jet to boot 😑).

I'd challenge them on this. If you can prove there is no external issues, you have a solid case. I had the same on mine (including water ingress, albeit only in to the light units).
It was replaced under warranty.

If you Google it, I think you'll find several instances of this. I think it was a case of these being over-torqued at build and stressing the plastic.

Cheers, I've emailed them.

One thing I'm a bit confused with is how so much water is coming into the light itself, and then coming out as a waterfall when the boot is opened.

@Sunderland06 - if your dealer doesn’t play ball, then it’s always worth trying another dealer. An inconsistent approach to warranty claims at different dealerships isn’t unusual within VAG.
I thought about trying with SEAT Pulman in Sunderland. Depending on what happens with me challenging SG Petch Durham, would you tell the other dealer that you've already had it denied by the first dealer or not?

No, I wouldn’t tell them.

Good luck 🤞. Please update this discussion topic with any developments.

So I've found out that my warranty ended in April this year so guess I'm out of luck with that.

However, I have went back to the lease company on their live chat support and they said they would approve the works, and would speak to the garage to confirm this.

So then I get a call from the garage this morning who say lease company are still saying no 😵💫

Going back to the lease company again now...
