So, bought a 2018 Cupra 300 ST. Few things to sort out on it.

Am I right in saying the diff of the manual car should have its oil changed every three years? Car's at 61k and no record of it being done.

Need to change the front pads and spark plug, can do that myself. Where's the best place to get them?

Seller said it had two keys but when I got there one had a broken shaft and was not opening the car. He said it was the battery but it's not. The LED works but not opening the car. Looks like it needs synced to the car? Which needs the shaft in the key...

This one I don't understand. Car has an aftermarket spliter on it which I'm taking off. I would have thought it would just be self-tappers into the underside of the bumper but the screws are just turning and not coming out. Tried several of them. Don't understand it. Anyone know how they might fasten?

Incidentally, the car has a RamAir induction kit fitted which is also coming off. That'll be for sale cheap if anyone wants it?

Thank yiou :0)

Googled the splitter and the damn thing has nut on the inside! No wonder the screws were just spinning.

Nice purchase. My Cupra only came with 1 key so I had another made. Have a car locksmith look at it? Do you have a picture of the splitter and induction kit?

The splitter is damaged, there is a bit broken out of it. I'll post a link to the induction kit. I've not taken it off the car yet. I don't think it's been on for too long. I got the original box with it.

Do Timsons do car keys? There is one near me. I thought the keys had to be coded by Seat/VW?

They may do, but they could be expensive. I got a mobile locksmith to do mine. Genuine VAG key fob exactly the same as the original. I just put a Seat logo in it.

Are you referring to the diff or 4drive Haldex coupling?

The Haldex coupling oil should be changed every 3 years, but the diffs should be sealed for life (but oil can be replaced).

If the car has been tuned or driven hard, the specialists recommend changing the Haldex oil every 20k miles and removing pump/cleaning strainer (not part of the VAG service).

No, The Cupra has a front diff which I gather is the same as the diffs in the 4drive system. I've seen conflicting advice but most sources say that the diff oil should be changed every 30k miles.

Also, I've just been under the car and noticed that the resonator has been removed! Not very happy. I'm telling the insurance company that there are no mods and it turns out there are. Don't know what to do now.

You said that you have the 300 ST - I was under the impression that these only came with 4drive; if so no front diff like 5dr FWD Cupras.

Is it a 7 speed DSG? If so, no resonator as it has the GPF (twin can version) just after the downpipe.

Service schedule is below (note not updated for 7spd DQ381 box):

Cupra is either or depending if FWD or 4WD.

No, it's a front-wheel drive and manual. I've looked at pictures in line and it looks like standard cars have a toblerone in the middle of the exhaust. I don't. I've got a straight pipe which does not look stock.

The exhaust is not crazy loud though, which I would have thought it would be with resonator delete. Sounds pretty similar to the 2015 car I drove last week.

Ok, in which case, for FWD service is 3 years, but uses a similar Haldex system to lock front diff electronically. There were some posts on here recently for this. Probably at the bottom of this thread...

I had my front diff serviced recently for the first time, at just over 100,000… 😳 had the car since 80,000 and previous owner hadn’t done that or a DSG service.

The VAQ unit, if your car has one, acts on one of the front driveshafts - or outputs from the front diff, it seems. I just bought genuine VW Group fluid online and a pair of Fill and Drain plugs and eventually replaced the fluid using a long syringe/discharge pump thing from Laser Tools. Eventually I plan to remove the pump and clean its screen - and doing that means buying a kit that includes a pair of pump O-ring seals and pump retaining bolts. I don't have one of these cars but it is me that seems to do the servicing work on my older daughter's 2019 Cupra! I had originally intended to clean the pump at this VAQ fluid change, but left it too late and time ran out so I only did the bare minimum while carrying out the year 4 service, though I had already bought the pump seals/bolt kit and luckily ended up with a (free) second bottle of Haldex fluid!

Did you notice any difference after it was done?

Gearbox was smoother, then it had to be replaced by insurance for a brand new one couple of months later… Didn’t notice much difference after servicing the diff to be honest. It’s always handled pretty well both before and after servicing.

In what way? My clutch is a little snatchy. Not terrible but it's like the revs drop slightly as the clutch bikes to the car jerks. I don't think it will be anything to do with the diff.

Thank you. I did have a problem actually. Admiral quoted me £386 for the car but when I picked the car up the next day and went ahead with the insurance they said it was £560! I've complained and they're going to look into it but I'm not happy. I'm 56, not a boy racer and never had an accident.

It seems to depend who you get at Admiral. Some of their operators are very good and others hopeless.
