Electric Tailgate - Remote Close & Interior Button behaviour

Good morning all, I have tried to search but not found any answers, so excuse me if i am duplicating something in advance, but I have a couple of questions I hope someone may be able to help me with.

My 2022 Ateca did not have the power tailgate, but the dealer offered to fit it, which they did and so far so good, however, they did not fit the button on the center console to control the boot. I considered whether I should also look to retrofit this as it would be quite useful...

But, I had to take my car in for a warranty repair (the drivers seat decided to dissasemble itself...) and they gave me a courtesy car which is also a 2022 Ateca, but it has the factory fitted tailgate with the button. When you use that button however, it does not do anything except release the latch.. The struts do not kick in, it does not open it just releases the lock...

So my 2 questions

1. Is the interior button for the tailgate supposed to actually work to fully open and close the boot, or is it just a latch release?
2. And a bonus question whilst I am here - Is there any way to code the car to enable close by remote?

I want to know as if all that button does is release the latch, its a retrofit not worth my effort and i'll skip it - but in every other car i've owned it worked properly, so am really confused.

You have to hold the button to the desired opening of the trunk
also you have to hold the remote button to close it
at least thats how my pfl cupra ateca came

That's how my factory fitted one works. Useful to pop it up when you sitting in the drivers side want to open it for some approaching. I do, do the foot underneath virtual peddle more than the button. Virtual peddle might not be in all regions.

May be they didn't get the logic correct on the retrofit.

Thats what i was curious about, but i don't have the newest VCDS dongle to check the coding options properly and am not sure i want to pay the price for the new one just to check it.

I did find it very odd that it didnt work fully from the interior button, but i think for just that its not worth the effort to retrofit...

Simply does nothing for me, i did find some info it depends on the generation, it might be the earliest ones had it but this newer model is disabled, i have seen people selling physical modules to enable remote closing, but i dont want to mess about too much with it whilst it is under warranty. Thanks for your tips.

There was a dark art to retrofit them. Somebody had a go on the standard Ateca thread. The coding is linked to the VIN so since it was never factory fitted they couldn't code it since the mothership wouldn't allow. That's been hacked by retrofitters and their part suppliers these days according to @East Yorkshire Retrofits one of the boards sponsors that can do it. I guess whoever did yours didn't do it correctly or the hack isn't fully implemented.

There's no hack

Install it, code it, parameterise it then perform basic settings, done. Absolutely no need to go online with it. 2-3 hours work max

That's what the mechanical engineering lass got told by their dealer that said they couldn't programme the unit since it was a retrofit. This was the early days before they were sold as retrofit packages so suspect she didn't get the coding right and Seat dealers were not prepared to help.

Electric Tailgate

I have retrofitted an electric tailgate to my Ateca using all new SEAT parts. I didn't realise the ECU has to be perameterised. SEAT refuse to do it and I can't find a company who are willing to try. Anybody any ideas on how this can be done?

Dealers can't officially retrofit it themselves, as there's no kit from seat & there never will be. This means there's no software adaptation code to enter within ODIS, which is the only software dealers have access to

If dealers are attempting it, they'll have to code in self diagnosis mode. Even then, they'd need to buy a used module with the correct dataset as they don't possess the necessary files and have no way to upload them if they did
