Leon issue, ESC, TPMS errors

Hello,

Sorry for starting straight off as a new poster in this fashion, but I was wondering if anyone can help.

Bit of background first, I bought a 2013 Seat Leon FR (Mk3) last year. As soon as I collected it from the dealer and brought it home, it essentially died. Upon turning on the ignition, there was an ESC error, then a TPMS error. Attempting to start resulted in the engine either firing up for about a second then cutting out, or the engine just turning over repeatedly without firing at all.

Long story short, the dealer collected the car with a truck, and a week later determined that the ECU needed replacing. We got it back, and everything was peachy.

8 months later, the car starts to act up again. Driving along (I'd done about 30 miles, and it was a dry and warm summer day), and the bongs sound with the ESC then TPMS throwing errors. Start Stop also stopped working, as did cruise control and the parking sensors, but the engine continued running smoothly, and re-starting it cleared the issue.

It's now getting more and more common again until it started happening pretty much every other time I drove it, then finally this morning I get the errors as soon as I turn on the ignition, and the car refuses to start - just like when I first got it.

I've done a lot of searching around on this forum (and others), and have seen a number of similar issues to this, but usually they occur in cold weather, and usually clear up once the car is driven for a short distance - hence they're more annoyances than anything. I'm yet to see anyone get to the level where their car is marooned on the driveway as a result of this issue, and the errors on my car (if they occur while driving) do not clear until I turn the ignition off and on again.

Before I get the car shipped over to the garage (again), I'd like to try and understand the fault a bit better and what may be causing it, as changing the ECU does not seem to have eradicated the problem long-term. Does anyone have any ideas at all please that might help here?

Many thanks for any assistance!

Do you have access to OBD11 or VCDS so you can run a check on the car and see if there are any errors.

If not let us know where you are located and maybe somebody can help out.

Thanks for the replies.

The car was bought from an independent dealer unfortunately. It did come with a 3rd party 6 month warranty, but this has now expired (typically).

Kiddo: The battery seems fine on the car, it's holding its charge well, voltage levels are fine, and it's capable of turning the engine over for quite some time without the starter motor sounding as if it's labouring at all (found that out recently when trying several times to get it to burst to life on the drive). I've given it a top up from a charger, but this hasn't made any difference unfortunately.

theoldboy: Regrettably not. I'm up in the north of Scotland (about 10 miles north of Aberdeen) and don't know anyone up here with any diagnostics machines I can try.

For now, the car is booked in with the nearest Seat dealer on Wednesday next week. I spoke with the independent garage that changed the ECU last year and they advised getting Seat to check it out as if the ECU has failed (again), they can replace it under warranty (as the existing ECU is only 10 months old). Must admit, I'd be very surprised if it's failed again mind you, although changing it previously did fix the issue for about 8 months.

If anyone does have any other ideas for what it could be, please do let me know, and thanks again for the suggestions so far, they're very much appreciated! :)

I had this problem for 8 months with my 2015 Leon FR. Car was in and out of 3 garages without getting fixed. Had crankshaft sensor and wiring done, camshaft sensor replaced but kept doing it. Also had the gearbox in park error. Decided to try and fix it myself. Scanned it, replaced coolant sensor, cleaned MAF and replaced battery. Also gave it a good service, changed all filters and oil. Done about 2000 miles without error now.

In my opinion it was probably the battery even though tests said it was fine.

Yes Battery can give some very strange results to how the car works.

@Wadeagr53 are you using a generic OBD2 Scanner or do you have OBD11/VCDS
