Leon Mk1 indicators not working when (un)locking

Hi,

Since a few months I got this problem that my indicators are not working when locking/unlocking the car (1.8 20v, 2003).
It happened while I was replacing the rear left turn signal light.

The 2 green leds for the indicators on the instrument cluster are also not blinking.

Things I already done:
- Checked every single fuse
- rechecked coding in VCDS if it somehow got changed
- replaced drivers front door lock (it was bad in the first place, that's why i replaced it)
- sprayed the hood latch (i've read that those things also can cause this problem?)

The indicators work normally, no hyperflashing etc, emergency lights also work normal when i press the button.

Did i miss something? Could it still be a bad relay in the hazard switch? Or is my indicator stalk dead? (Even though it still works for normal indicating)

But i have no fault codes in vagcom? (In ch46, centr. Conv.)

And what exactly is the central locking? Is it a module somewhere under the dash?

Is the central locking the same part as the comfort module (1C0 959 799 F)?

Can you just confirm that the indicator lights on the dash don't work at all, ever? Just making sure I've got a clear picture in my head.

I might have my parts mixed up here, but I don't believe mk1 Leons came with comfort modules from the factory, so that shouldn't be an issue, unless you've installed it yourself, or it's been added to your car. If I remember correctly, all they do is allow one-touch indicators (i.e. they flash three times when you push the indicator stalk), so most didn't bother. They came as standard in the mk3 Ibiza but were only aftermarket in the Leon.

The hazard switches are known for causing problems - when I first got my car, the relay would frequently click rapidly and randomly, and was fixed with a new hazard module.

In terms of the indicators not flashing when you lock the car, that normally points to a faulty lock or the bonnet or boot isn't shut properly, but you've obviously thought of that. If the indicators don't flash when you unlock the car though, that sounds unusual.

Oh no, here's the thing:

The indicators DO work. Everything works, even on the dash.

I thought that 1C0 959 799 F is called a comfort module? No i did not install anything like comfort blinkers.

is it possible that the hazard switch could be faulty even tho everything works like normal?
Blinkers work normal, the indicators in the dash light up, hazard lights work.

The only problem is with unlocking/locking the car, the blinkers used to blink once when i locked the car and twice when unlocking.

Centr Conv is the right module. Have a look through the live data inside the Central Conv. There is a group there that shows if the module thinks each individual door is locked/unlocked. Maybe it thinks one of the doors is open or something?

Other than that i'm not sure bro. If it was my car then as long as the locking and indicators work then i would probably leave it and not worry about it tbh.

Yeah i could take a second look there, and maybe recheck all the fuses for continuity.

Sometines it does bother me because after i lock the car from a distance I don't know if the car is locked or not.

Could it still be a damaged central conv. module/broken hazard switch/instrument cluster even though those works normally fine? (That it's somehow partially broken?)

Update:

- Checked literally ALL fuses, everything is good

- Checked in vagcom for door faults, nothing.
All 4 doorlocks works perfectly, and report if openend/closed/locked/unlocked.

Also, according to vagcom, my car does not have a hood latch contact (like some do have?)

I measured voltage to the blinker bulbs (at the rear bulb holder) and got nothing while pressing (un)lock on keyfob.

So is there a module that sends power to the blinkers when unlocking/locking the car?

I don't know how it is controlled tbh. My best guess is that the central convience probably has a way to trigger the indicators via the flasher unit. Maybe try taking it out and cleaning all the contacts or replacing it, would be a gamble though

My dad also has a mk1 but a 2004, i could try swapping his flasher unit with mine and look if that fixed the problem.

Also, just to be clear; with flasher unit u mean the hazard light switch right?

I swapped my flasher unit/hazard switch with the mk1 from my dad, but nothing made a difference.

sill does not blink while locking/unlocking the car...

But how when vagcom/vcds is reporting all door correct? and even the car knows that either three doors are open. (Interior lights/door lights turns on)
No fault codes.

As mentioned, it happened while changing a blinker bulb, how can that even "destroy" a doorlock?

The only other time I've had problems with the indicators not flashing was when I hadn't plugged all of the connectors back together in the door after changing the driver's door lock. I think it was even something quite innocent like the LED that flashes to tell you the alarm is armed being left unplugged.

If there were any problems with the door locks though, I don't think this would come up as a code, even as an intermittent fault. My offside rear lock is on its way out and there's no code. It tends to be more engine stuff that does that.

I don't have an alarm (i think)

The only doorlock i replaced was the drivers door lock, but its plugged in all the way, and i've never touched the other three.

I was working on the doorlock after i got the no blink problem.
I don't know what else it could be.. a new CCM? A new instrument cluster?🤨

My old car which belongs to a relative now doesn't flash when locking, but does when unlocking, because the left rear door lock is broken and you can't open the door at all.

(a job for summer)

The indicator bulb change might just be a red herring

I will keep an eye on how you get on, as mine is doing the same thing. Good luck.

I got the solution! I asked in a mk1 facebook group and they told me about it!

It was the damn fuse under the dash.. the left one

Now my blinkers do work when unlocking/locking!

It was a PITA to open the door without actually opening it, if that makes sense.

I had to deal with that **** too..

I got a used doorlock from a junkyard and my car did unlock but couldnt open my drivers door.. i had to open the metal backplate with the door closed and i was fiddeling with the connector, plugging it in and out, pulling the handles, smashing the damn doorlock with a hammer, and suddenly it worked

If u ask me, never get used doorlocks (they refused to give me my money back but still sent me another used one)

Iknow, bit offtopic but could be handy to know
