Hi, Out of the blue while I was driving very slowly down a rough track I got messages saying that front assist is unavailable - sensor impaired, and a second message saying drive assist is unavailable. The sensor looks totally ok as far as I can see. I have started the car whilst parked up and the messages still appear. Does anybody have any ideas?

Mine does this from time to time but generally when sensors are dirty or maybe condensation sitting on it. After a clean or car switched off for an hour it resets itself.

Snow is enemy nr 1 for this. Water and general dirt comes second. If you clean it off it can also reset itself within 5-10 minutes of driving, and front assist/autopilot is re-enabled.
Also, is your license plate mounted on a bracket in front? Maybe send a picture. I recently had mine removed because it was known to interfere.

Yes, happening to me on the zeroish morning temperatures. Spray with de-icer and wipe off all good. First time it cleared itself after about 10 minutes, second time I pulled over and sprayed and wiped them just to see what happens. It's just an assist, I can drive happilly without it when it's having a moment.
I removed the front license plate bracket because of the same reason on my Leon. Don't know if this was the fix but I never had any issues with the sensor after that. The car got some software update too but who knows ...
It's really crazy that the majority of owners of a Cupra/Seat have this problem with the front sensor.
It's not something that just came up and the group for Cupra/VW should address this as a matter of priority in order to find a solution.
When I confront customer service and the car dealer that there is something wrong with the car, they just refer to it as an assistant. But even though I point out that it's a manufacturing defect that needs to be fixed on a product I paid for, it doesn't work.
I mean, it's like buying a packet of milk but the milk is missing from the package, but you still have to pay full price.

Same here. Get this at least once a couple of times a month, more often since the cold weather though.

Fault warning "Front assist unavailable sensor impaired" I see this is not an unknown fault but on my 2022 Formentor on 7K miles it started to do this and did it 2 or 3 times but cleared itself and today the fault now has decided to come on and stay on the sensor etc is clean, so is this commonly iffy electronics or is it a dealer job now?
Well it has been raining but the warnings came when when it was dry and if a safety related item that is supposed to warn you of a possible frontal collsion and brake accordingly to prevent an accident is a system that could possibly fail when driving in the rain then its not really reliable is it and a bit pointless.
I have really been impressed wth the Formentor so much so I was just about to change it for a Formentor VZN but I think I will put my £48k on hold to see where this goes.

On some of the sensors after heavy rain if it runs down in front of it, it will takes out front assist. The Arona does that on the tilt. It's measuring the bounce back radar so if it's blocked too close to where it's eminating from which is down in the bumper area, not windscreen note. It's bussies out with that message. Blind spot / rear cross is the same.
The Ateca if driving in very heavy rain will do the same. It's like sticking your hand infront of the beam, it says the obstruction is too close for the system to work so goes off line. Front assist dries out and starts working, rear cross / blind spot has to be manually turned back on in the Ateca and Arona at least. Expect the same in the Formentor.
The Arona had a fun one in sillage collection. Driven backwards down a steep banked road being chased up front by a sillage lorry. The close bank knocked out rear assist. Two miles further on, blind spot not working, head scratching... ah the bank. Classic covered radar sensor. That was a menu toggle back on.

That's a film of water / condensation on it. Not sure how hybrids and EVs fair where they don't have the engine heat.
After this mornings trip the warning had corrected itself but then I had to go out this evening and the rain was belting down and there was no warning but this time about half way on my trip the warning came back.
From new I have driven in heavy rain and had no fault so the fact it's doing it now means it now must be faulty!
