Personally, I like the 18" OEM ones that have some dark grey. They have the 'hook' like spokes that makes them look like the LED inside headlights.Hi everyone, hope you all are doing well.
I have a desire red Leon mk4, and looking to get some new wheels (which i am prefering some black ones). What are your suggestions on wheels model to fit best on a desire red Leon mk4.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Satin Black works nice on wheelsLooks Good @BigJase88. Car looks spotless and I can’t see any brake dust on the wheels. Would I be right in assuming you’d just washed the car earlier by any chance?. Joking aside, as I said in my previous post, red + black is a good combination.
I‘d still go for anthracite coloured alloys though……... However, if the only two available choices were diamond cut and black, I’d definitely go for black.

I have them on summer tyres, and was thinking of some black ones for winter tyres to have like a second look for the car. First confusion i am thinking is between Matt black or Gloss black, dont know which one would fit better.Personally, I like the 18" OEM ones that have some dark grey. Thank you on your opinion, it gave me info at some points that i didnt had in cosideration.I’d personally go for a lighter shade than black. Although black alloys on a red car is quite a good combination, IMHO black alloys only really look clean just after they’ve been washed - at other times they can have the appearance of always looking dirty as a result of the build up of brake dust and road dirt.
In terms of colour, my preference would be to go for grey (anthracite, gunmetal), smoked chrome or a dark silver and a powder coated finish. All of those colours seem to hide brake dust and road dirt well, and unlike gloss black, won’t show swirl marks.
I’d avoid anything with a diamond cut finish (also referred to as ‘machined’ or ‘polished’) as the long term durability of lacquer applied directly to a diamond cut surface isn’t particularly good. Diamond cut alloys quite often succumb to white worm corrosion at around three years old (some times sooner), especially if they’re on a car during the winter months and subjected to winter road conditions. White worm corrosion can be removed by getting the alloys refurbished (a top quality refurbishment would cost in the region of £120 - £140 plus VAT per wheel), but it often comes back a couple of years later. Also, because of the process used to refurbish diamond cut alloy wheels (cutting a layer of metal off the face of the wheel), they can usually only safely be refurbished twice - more than twice and too much metal will have been removed, which would compromise the structural integrity and safety of the wheel.
If you are unsure on gloss vs matt then there is satin which falls in between the two. The pic i posted of the mini it has satin black wheelsI have

Satin Black works nice on wheels
Yeah gloss black does show imperfections. I am a clean freak though so my wheels are never dirty

Satin black on my other car [not 100%] they hide the swirls you get with
This was the point i was confused on, as i see we share the same preference for the gloss black color because of the swril effect (despite having it only when car is clean)Satin Black works nice on wheels

I chose gloss black as all the other trims on my car were gloss black. I just didnt think matt black would go with all the gloss black additions. Would of looked a bit odd imo. This was the point i was confused on, as i see we share the same preference for the gloss black color because of the swril effect (despite having it only when car is clean)
