This is how restomods happen - and I'm totally up for that. I don't have the understanding of geometry and how this might affect handling, but if you can get the front seated OK, the rear could just be a matter of welding the mounting hole and moving it back a centimetre.

Makes me wish I'd been better at maths though...

Restomods? Well, I was thinking about the Built By Legends Honda Civic.

But anyway. The amount of castor it would introduce is impressive (it's out by 50mm on stock positions). You'd get away with adapting Verkline wishbones for sure, but at £800 a set that might be a bit too much.

Not so much what I’ve done today but more- two completely different reactions from my kids picking them up from school in the Leon today.
Since getting the car back from its new mot a couple of weeks ago I’ve been laid up with Covid so it’s not moved.
Normally pick them up from school in my daily driver trafic van but took the car for a 20 minute drive to clear it’s cobwebs (and mine) then went straight to school.
On seeing it in the carpark my car mad 10 year old said “yes the Leon” clinching his fist, while the 6 year old who couldn’t care less about cars went “ huh dad, why’ve you come in the old car?” :ROFLMAO:
He’ll learn.

Same. I go once in a while in the Leon to grab my lad.
He loves it. ( now he’s used to everyone in the street staring as I gently brake, with my Carbotech pads squealing like stuck pigs )
Get lots of. “ like your car Mr!”

As for your youngest, give him time. He will see the light!

Blame that thread on the mk1 TT that was posted here a while back. You suddenly realise that there are things out there you can do that are going to improve the handling, the performance etc. and will really set the car apart from others.

Me? I'd like to improve the efficiency of the engine. For a while I was thinking about getting an engine replacement from a more modern diesel and having the benefits of a DPF and all the other developments there have been in the past fifteen to twenty years, but at the same time, the 1.9 ARL is bulletproof and plenty capable with just a tune.

That Civic is lovely though.

Now you got me thinking about what a Leon restomod would be like (Cupra TDI and R)

Wider stance and flared arches - not extreme - just a bit of bulge - and I would be very happy. Maybe a lower centre of gravity. I don't know that there's that much on the handling side I would change.

Brakes though - definitely brakes.

To be honest the more modern cars I've driven have been wallowy and the steering feels totally disconnected.

Granted you've got some really good performance cars out there, but I can't afford a GTR or an M1. The new M3 is ridiculously long.

There's a lot more horsepower out there these days, but if that's the case, why does my stock 150bhp put the power down harder and more cleanly than a lot of supposed hot hatches out there? I don't have any trouble at the lights, that's for sure.

Its what i miss about my old car. In the summer with the windows down and giving the car a load of beans from low speeds. I could hear the tread of the tyres grabbing onto the tarmac as best they could.

I dont get that from my 18t. Although, to be honest, i dont push it as hard as i did my dizzal.

So... I have the start of an idea for a restomod.

Audi TT floor pan with Porsche seats
Alloy suspension with decent coilovers
Billet brake calipers with 2 piece discs
Aero
Either a 2 litre 16v CR engine with DSG, or a built 1.9 8v PD and 02M transmission
(Similar options for a Cupra R... just with petrol)

Its a shame they aren't 3 door. Would be easier to mod the rear arches. RS6 style would be nice.

Love the organised boot tray.
I have one of those but I’ve not got mine in the car.
Its in the loft and needs a bit of tlc.
I keep looking at it thinking I’m going to try refurbish it somehow.
I’ve too many other projects going on at the minute but I’ll get round to it one day. :rolleyes:

Bought some oil. Now I can close all 86 tabs I've got open with threads on what oil for my PD150 that all differ in some way.

Quantum Platinum 5w30, if anyone was wondering.

Crush washers for the sump on their way too. I have a magnetic sump plug, so will be interested to see how that looks after two and a bit years.

New N18 is at the sorting office ready to be picked up.

I might actually have a working, non-stuttering car by the end of next week.

Then all I have to do is correct the paint, respray the front and rear bumpers, spray the chipped paint on the bonnet, remove the dent from the nearside rear door.

And try to re-glue the fabric on the door cards.

And the clutch. I really don't want to do the clutch. I think it would be easy enough if I had a transmission jack, but the cheapest I can get one is something like £115 and I don't want to buy one if I'm only going to use it once.

Any ideas?

Yeh, dont do the clutch.
I was a mechanic with tools, a ramp, a big heated workshop and mechanic mates to help. And i still payed someone else to do it.
Its just a sh!t job.
If it fills you with dread that much and the clutch will last. Maybe just slowly save up for it and let someone else do it.
Easy for me to say i know.

02M gearboxes are friggin heavy and hateful things to manoeuvre on the ground let alone above your head and in a tiny space.
Believe me I've moved enough of the b@stard things!
Unless you've got full ramp access & transmission support I'd pay someone else to fit the clutch as its an absolute pig to do on the ground.

Yeah... That just makes me want to do it more.

It's kind of like a rite of passage - changing your oil, doing a cambelt, replacing a clutch... But then some clutches are way easier than others.

In terms of doing it, I've got no fear of the job itself, even though every single job I've done on my car has never been straightforward, but the other issue is that every garage I've asked about it is quoting me around £800 - and that's with them using the clutch and DMF I've already bought. Truth be told, I'd like to save the money to put towards a remap after I've done it. If there's a market for transmission jacks that have only been used once so I can sell it on after, I've definitely got the time to do it myself...

I just bought oil from dealers and it was Quantum 5W-40 for the PD150

In the end, I'm not ragging the **** out of it or doing any track days, and I was looking more for the VW 505.01 approval than anything.

Unless I get a load of work where I need to travel, I'm not going to do much more than a few thousand miles this coming year and if I feel like something's gone wrong, I'll just change it straight away.

Anything has to be better than what's in there now though.
