Infotainment, newer models better?

I know there's a dearth of issues and threads around the Formentors "Infotainment" already but am wondering if anyone can help with this, if indeed it is a valid question😏
So, I'm currently in a quandary as to whether to plump for brand new (As prices are so high at the moment secondhand/nearly new.)
There is however a car on Auto Trader at the moment that is everything I want but including the optional sun roof and it's approx ' 2 grand cheaper than brand new, but I see posts on here that suggest the infotainment on newer models is better than first edition models, so I was wondering if there's a perhaps preferable registration date where these issues appear better?

Mine is a 71 plate. I hate to think what the early ones are like as mine is garbage. It spoils a decent car.

Hmmm, this doesn't sound very promising😒 speaking as someone who's never even had infotainment....of any sort (Yes, there are still a few of us out there😂) ....I wonder if I'd find it as frustrating as someone who's used to infotainment?
Tbh all I need is maybe sat nav, and Apple car play to let me stream music of my choice, I know there's controls on there for the car but I'd like to think I could adapt...hopefully😏

It seems all VW group cars are plagued with infotainment issues. I get error messages most days, todays informed me the parking assist was faulty. I now put a virtual bag over it and get on with driving.

Go for a test drive and see if you can live without buttons and with everything on the screen.

Mine is two weeks old.
The ACC wakes up some days and thinks its still in Spain - won't overtake cars when cruise control on because it thinks you are undertaking.
The sign recognition regularly converts the speed to kmh and shows that ( eg - pass a 50mph sign - car shows 80 )
Shortcuts seem to reset themselves each morning so I can't find things quickly.
Lane departure is a pain in the ass - role on the capability to switch it off permanently.
Heater controls at the bottom of the screen are unlit at night.

Apart from the ACC (we all have that issue) there are many cars that are fault free. Understandably you hear from those with issues as they are trying to get a fix or understanding of the scale of issue - not from those whose cars work. Mines been fine in the 8 months I've had it. Mechanically faultless(tempts fate) and I've learnt how to get round the touch controls etc using voice control or changing the infotainment screen homepage. Overall the plusses outweigh the negatives. It does seem as though the earlier cars had more bugs though. So as has been mentioned above take it for a test drive to make sure you like how it drives first, a fix should be imminent for the infotainment system so be a shame to miss out on a good deal.

71 plate since end of November. Had the screen freeze twice but a hold down power button reset fixed it.
I think a lot of people press 10 buttons in 5 seconds and wonder why it freezes. Just give it a few seconds to catch up or between pressing buttons and it should be ok. On software 1804 12” screen.

After four BMW's in a row, and although only having had mine two months, I have to admit there have been a few occasions where I have said I'll be going back to BMW. If everything worked as it should do, it would be a fantastic car.

I wanted to just put my hand into the mix as I am one of the luckier owners.

- Infotainment works really well and any lag is hardly noticeable - I am coming from BMW iDrive.
- Wireless Android Auto is flawless and works every time.
- Everything seems to work as it should (so far)
- I am even getting 25-30mpg around town in a mix of Cupra and Comfort.
- The App (although I wouldnt pay for it) is nice and hasn't thrown up any random issues.
- No rattles and the car feels completely solid to drive.
- No errors have flagged up and the safety features work as intended.

I was a bit worried about the lack of buttons but as the volume/media controls are on the steering wheel, and I have found the perfect temperature that suits me, I haven't really had to use it apart from when I am waiting for the misses and looking around the menus etc. Plus the "hola hola" works really well or pressing the voice command button on the steering wheel.

For me, at present, it is easily the best car for me and my family. It is incredibly comfortable in normal "comfort" mode, so light and quiet around town... then an entirely different beast when you need it to be.

I am very happy and it was worth the 8 month wait :)

Nice to see some positivity in here, I'm yet to actually get one but have to admit the amount of complaining and niggles in various threads does give me pause for thought?
That said you tend to see the same across other sites😒

I think if you were to get every single Formentor owner in one room and asked them, you would get a lot more positive than negative responses. The problem cars are in the dealerships so the owners have time to log on and discuss it... the people with working Formentors are our driving them like they stole them

Mine is on a 68 plate and so long as I can turn the Lane Assist off it’s not too bad (it’s only tried to kill me once). Today it hasn’t played ball and the screen has turned on but wont respond to any touch so had to do both school runs with the air con blasting on 4 whilst fighting Lane Assist. I know Lane Assist can be turned off from the wheel but that messes up the dashboard layout. When it does work it connects to wireless Android Auto really well.

Mine is a 21 plate and randomly had the inactive screen every so often, its just been in to Cupra for an update and it's transformed it and it now works pretty much as soon as the ignition is on.

It's not the big update people are talking about but the display/control panel software that was upgraded to version 6078, though I think some have 6080.

The only difference to mine is that the software version is 1790. I don't get how one works but the other doesn't!!
