Morning Gents,

I have recently been shopping around for a new cam belt for my 2015 FR.

I contacted many people for quotes and a number of SEAT dealerships advised a similar message to the email I have just received below:


"Dear Sir

Thank you for the enquiry but your vehicle is fitted with a cam belt that has no change interval so will not need changing

I hope this helps

Regards"



So what is the truth with this? I have always changed my timing belts and water pumps, (I am aware the water pump on this model is on opposite side of cam belt) - but responses like the above have be wondering if it actually needed to be changed at all?

FYI - its on 36k

I get a similar schedule info on the 110kW 1.4:

So check timing belt condition at 150,000 miles.
The problem with 'checking' the timing belt - I believe to check properly you might as well change it!

Arnt tsi engines on a chain? I was told ky cupra was on a chain

My Car is 100% the EA211.

I have just had my continental cam belt kit delivered this morning, and bit undecided about when to install it now.

How hard can it be for a straight answer from SEAT

There is no 'TIME' dependent requirement for replacing the timing belt from Seat. That is quite clear.

There is a 'check condition' requirement at 150k miles.

I appreciate that pal,

My point being is that it seems to go against the general advise on here to others with the same car and other independent advise that suggest it needs changing at 60k or 5 years.

I’ve got the same engine and year as you and I had a reminder from my dealer to get it changed on the 5 year anniversary. They recommended the fixed price change which included a Seat 5 year warranty. Think it was £499 at the time.
None of this answers your question of if it actually NEEDS doing…..I’m sure the dealer was happy to take my business. From my perspective I’m happier that it’s replaced and should, in theory, give me a few more years without concern….but I’m a cautious type…

I am certainly not trying to avoid doing it and am fairly cautious myself. I had the below delivered from Autodoc in Germany this morning.

Just annoys me how you cant get a straight answer and how one garage will say the other one doesn't know what they are talking about

I had a service adviser turn down my request to do the belt at 5 years, he told me the car had a chain, then argued with me when I corrected him, he was happy to take my money later when the job was done, stayed clear of him and dealt only with his colleague from then on.
Seems to be a bit of hit or miss job, depends on who you ask, I got it done, 5 year warranty and will be rid of car before that expires I reckon, but you never know when I read of all the issues with newer Seats.
I had a Honda service agent ask if my S2000 was diesel when booking a job, and she had been in the dealer for donkeys years.

I know I also find it frustrating, you also have the separate small belt driving the water pump on the other end of your engine (mind you if this fails it doesn't end catastrophically like the timing belt!), and I have a separate belt in oil on the TDI again with no service change interval! Are you (VAG) telling be a rubber belt will last forever! no - of course not - but without any schedule that's what they are effectively saying.

If you have the parts and are changing it yourself - I would just do it at your leisure over the next nice weekend, no rush.
