I have a Thinkware 770 front and rear combo hardwired into my VZ2 310: I didn’t install it myself as I wouldn’t know how to. It’s wired to permanent live on the fuse box behind the glove box. The installer routed the rear cabling along the nearside roof and screen pillar, using a separate “tail” cable between the tailgate and the main shell. All works perfectly.
He was just lazy - I installed my 2CH camera today and did it the proper way, running the cable inside the loom. It is a PIA, but it looks much more clean.
Need to make some photos or video later.

Perhaps I didn’t explain that very well. He wasn’t lazy: he did run it inside the loom, but he created a section of cable run just for the tailgate, which feeds through one of the gaiters. He explained the logic at the time, but I confess most of it passed me by.
That makes more sense, but I still don't get why to put a separate cable - yes, it is a proper PIA to do that section and it is the part that took me longer
