Like yourself, I was surprised how well spec'd the entire range was, hence why I went for a V2 as it was basically the same spec as the VZ2 but without the 310 engine. I did seriously consider going for the VZ2, but the cost difference, savings on fuel and having test driven the 1.5 and actually realising that it is quick enough for everyday driving, I was more than happy to go for the V2 model.It’s quite clever/sneaky of them really. I was really surprised how well specced even the basic version of the vehicle was as outset, the only real differentiators being the power units, but they’ve gradually scaled back the spec on the cheaper vehicles, probably without making price the equivalent price reductions too. Bar stewards!

I've ordered a VZ1 245 petrol, but they still seem to be making their way through the production line as there seems to be none at all in the UK at the moment. I test drove a manual V1 1.5 as I just wanted a rough idea of what it drove like. I was of a similar mindset to yourself as well about having a last hurrah and getting something with a bit of go before we all start driving golf carts, and looked at the BMW M135i and Mini JCW Clubman. I was so close to going for the BMW 128ti, but by the time I had spec'd it how I wanted, the payments were way to expensive. Having also had four BMW's in a row, thought it might be nice to try something different as well.Sensible. My choice was much easier than that. A Peugeot 3008 GT-Line, with all the gadgets, 1.2 with a 3-cylinder 155bhp, 0-62mph in 8.8secs engine at £288pm or a Vz2 2.0TSI turbo, with even more gadgets, knocking out 310bhp 0-62mph in 4.9secs. I drive a C-Class Merc at the mo, that does between 550 and 680 miles to the tank, so the drop in range will hurt my pocket; but this will be my last ICE machine and I want it to be memorable.

Yeah, the 1.5 didn't seem bad at all, and gave it a spirited run on a back road on the test drive and it handled fairly well too. Having had a BMW M240i, then going to a 3 cylinder 1.5 118i Shadow Edition, the day to day driving of them wasn't much of a difference. Fair enough, if you want to beat someone from the lights or overtake with ease, the 240i was light years ahead of the 118i, but general everyday driving the 118i was nippy enough and handled just as well, so put my sensible hat on with the Formentor and went for the V2. Absolute no brainer!! Is that with a large deposit/initial payment?Sorry forgot to say the Peugeot was £288pm & the VZ2 310, £293pm (now amended original post), so it was a bit of a no brainer really!

I also noticed that my insurance was a couple of hundred quid less as well.…and I’m looking at a £500pa reduction in my insurance, which’ll pay for the big increase in fuel consumption.
