First service prices

Hi,

I have a 2018 Leon FR 1.4 TSI DSG bought from SEAT Approved Used in September 2020 (currently at 22.5k miles, only done 3-4k miles due to working from home) and the first service is due soon with the service warning message coming up every time I start the car.

Had a look on the SEAT website and the first service is oil/filter change and pollen filter for £189 (minor service) and I don’t think the brake fluid has been changed when I bought the car and is recommended to change every 2 years and that is £49, is the price fair or should I go to a independent VAG specialist to get it done?

@Casterina; If your 2018 Leon is on the time and distance service regime then yes, it’s a minor service at three years old. Seat won’t have changed the brake fluid last year when you bought the car at two years old as the first brake fluid change is due a three years old and then every two years after that.

The prices you’ve quoted in your post are similar to VW’s prices (minor service £184, brake fluid change £69). You may find an independent would charge less than a Seat dealer for the minor service but IMO the brake fluid change at £49 looks good value for main dealer prices.

I would say that's a fair price paid £30 more than that for a brake fluid change last week
Had a look on the SEAT website again and the brake fluid change is £69 and not £49, must of overlooked it being late last night but that still seems fair.

Rang my local independent VAG specialist which my friend recommended and has used them for a few years, they are quoting £260 for minor service and brake fluid change and will update the digital service record whereas it's £258 with SEAT (£189 for minor service and £69 for brake fluid) and includes 12 months roadside assistance so I'm leaning towards getting it done by SEAT.

£69 for a brake fluid change! Easy money. At Kia I charged for a litre of brake fluid (£12) but no extra on the labour if the fluid required changed, we used to a tester to check the fluid for moisture content.

Have you considered the ''all in'' service plan on offer from seat ?
Is that the all-in pricing for 2 services, 2 MOTs, 2 years roadside assistance and 2 years warranty for £791.76 instead of £1573.70?

For the 2 years warranty, it doesn't state if it's all component or named component cover or the excess cost.

I agree it's on the pricey side but for £34.50 a year for peace of mind, looks good in the service record and following their routine service maintenance.

All components and no excess,I signed up last week for it.the way I look at it, two services £500,two mot's £100, so 2 years warranty and AA cover for £200,I'll cancel my existing AA cover (170) so costing me £30.The only possible downside is wearable items like brakes etc would have to be done by the dealers, that's when they'll claw some money back( although I went to a specialist for mine saving £150 and they haven't noticed lol)

Yeah, just calculated the costs, 2 services is £508, 2 MOTs is £109 (MOT is about £15 more per year than most garages) so that's £174 for 2 years warranty and roadside assistance. As one year all components/no excess is £173 so the deal is a no brainer.

Does it state in their T&C that wearable items like brakes and pads needs to be done by them?

My last decision is to whether to take it to SEAT (Arnold Clark) in town 5 miles away or another one that is SEAT 12 miles away as I heard bad things about Arnold Clark.

Terms and conditions of the All-in product at the link below - I couldn’t get the pasted link to work in my post but if you copy the link and then paste it into your browser, it opens the Terms and Conditions document.

On the third page (Terms and Conditions - what you need to know) the third bullet point states that vehicles have to be serviced in accordance with the vehicle manufacturers recommendations, including using genuine Seat parts, oils and other fluids of equivalent spec and matching quality. It doesn’t state that servicing work or the replacement of serviceable items such as brake components have to be carried out by a Seat dealership, although using a Seat dealership would minimise the risk of a warranty claim being denied as there’ll be a record on Seat’s systems of the work being carried out, and there should be no doubt over the authenticity of the parts used.

I’d personally not use a dealer that has a poor reputation. I have a VW and my nearest VW dealer is around 10 miles from me. I don’t use that dealer; I use one who’s 30 miles away because I’ve always had good service from them.

Do you know which AA package/cover is in the 2 years roadside assistance?

it’s described as roadside assistance and is for the two year duration of the All In product. Copy of the cover provided as outlined in the summary driver guide on the Seat website;
