Strange electric window issue

Hi guys,

I have a 2012 Seat Ibiza 1.4 SC. Bought it with a busted passenger side window motor and I've replaced it, but now the passenger window doesn't go all the way down automatically - there's about 1cm visible above the door card. If I hold the window button down, it'll go all the way down, but never automatically. After that, the auto windows stop working for both doors.

Also, if I roll the window down at all, the auto windows stop working on both sides until I reset them. This means that if I have the windows down even slightly during a drive, I can't automatically close them using the buttons, or the key, which is a nightmare. The passenger window button only puts the window up, not down, but I figure maybe the switch is just toast? Going to replace that in a couple of days.

Am I missing something here or does anyone have any ideas of what might be wrong? The window moves smoothly in the regulator tracks so it's not getting stuck on anything, it's more like the control module doesn't know where the bottom of the track is? Weird.

Is the part number of your new motor module the same as the original one, also is it from the same manufacturer if not that could change the part number so that "matched" motor modules are always fitted. Hopefully it was not an aftermarket or Chinesey type of motor module you fitted.

Hi,

The part number matches exactly, it was taken from another ibiza, same trim in fact. Works perfectly, just seems that the auto system doesn’t know where the bottom of the track is.

Push all the way down and keep down button pressed for 10 seconds, push all the way up and keep up button pressed for 10 seconds.

Do this a couple of times to reset the window programing.

I’ve tried this multiple times mate it doesn’t do anything, next time I go to use the auto windows it stops with a bit still visible at the bottom and then stops working :( doesn’t fix until i do the reset procedure again

I can't remember how the window motor connects to the car, but it sounds like something is one tooth out - the window is hitting the top before it should so the anti-pinch (or whatever it's called) is kicking in, and at the lower end it's proud of the door card. Can you remove the motor, turn it one tooth and refit it accordingly?

I'm sure sure that these motor modules have that intelligence built into them, I thought they were all plug and play, when the top point is reached the increased current drawn tells it it has reached the top closure point and remembers that value - same for the lower limit.

Do you have the part number of the motor you put in?

Could you have fitted a non uk motor to a uk car or vice versa?

yeah that’s what i thought, there’s no markings on the motors from what i can tell and if it didn’t do as RUM4MO said, my window wouldn’t close as it would just go back down again if it was hitting the top too soon. i’ve moved the motor and regulator a tooth or two along and it doesn’t make a difference.

the motor is 6R0959801AL, photo attached

Looking back on what I posted, I think that I meant to write "I'm not sure that ----" rather than "I'm sure sure that ---" - too long ago to be certain though, what I meant either way was that that system used current sensing to determine the upper and lower stop points, that is why if the channels that the window glass runs in cause extra friction at certain points, then the window systems will think that it has reached a end point.

Edit:- on reflection, me using "I thought that they were all plug and play" means that you just fit the correct new motor assembly in and carry out the usual UP and DOWN hold for a second or two thing, and that establishes the top and bottom end stop positions.

So, have you checked the free movement of the glass in its channels, that sounds like what you should be doing.

Cant find any reference for 6R0959801AL but 6R0959801A is for LHD (non uk) cars.
Is your car LHD?

I once fit a RHD motor to my LHD car and had all sort of gremlins happening, like the other side front window stopping working, and also electric side mirrors would not fold or unfold properly.



Edit: doing a quick search appears that 6R0959801AL is selling mostly on uk websites so its probably fine, but if you ever get out of things to try I would try the 6R0959801Q.

From my experience one wrong motor can defently cause your car symtoms.
