Gear in E or D when ECO mode is active?

Hi

I need a clarification please for this:

When changing the drive mode to ECO, the digital screen shows the Letter E for the gear, and it remains with this letter as far as I'm still driving, once i switch the car off and then switch it on for another ride, it goes back to letter D. However the mode ECO remains chosen since first.
My question is that normal? Or it should always shown E as far as ECO is chosen?

My car is SEAT Ateca 2019

Thanks in advance

Yes they subsequently designed it to behave as you see it. The 2016 launch Ateca's stayed in Eco but I believe due to a common operation of the system, Seat decided that it should default back to D. The reason for this is that driving a diesel in Eco all the time leads to more active DPF regenerations cycles than passive ones. The oil that's used for burning off if the process isn't completed in active mode flows back into the engine so you end up with the engine getting flooded with diesel oil fuel. Common worry of diesel drivers now in lock down with short trips.

Net effect petrol cars get the design of diesels ones even though active / passive regeneration doesn't take place 😍. That's where I think the design change came in. Mine stays in Eco if I turn it off and back on. Circa 2018 they rolled the new behaviour out across the range so it defaults back even thou the switch is in Eco. Probably a VCDS mod you can do perhaps or not.

Thank you

So even if its petrol, it is normal to see it D, however the mode is ECO.
👍
