I brought a SEAT LEON 20VT CUPRA 6 weeks ago from a private garage. Its a 52 model. Since getting the car it has been in seat 4 times for this warning light ! under warranty it has had a new water pump fitted, this was on the 3rd visit, the previous 2 visits they just reset the light. but on the 3rd visit they said there computer was telling them there was fault with the water pump so it was changed. 3 days later the light was back on !! back in the car goes, and after checks seat now say it needs a new thermostat. :(
Has any body else had this problem with this warning light ?
When the light first came on the car drank shed loads of juice ! and the temp guage never stayed in the same place.

I've got an 02 Leon Cupra 20VT, and had this warning twice. First time it was flashing and the engine was running really rough, turned out the coils needed replacing (common according to the garage).

Second time the light was on constant with no descernible difference to the running of the engine. The garage asked if I had any overheating problems (no) and replaced the temperature sender. Everything seems fine now fingers crossed!

My warning light is on all the time. Gets reset every service - about 4 times so far, then comes back on...

Would love to know how to get rid of it.

Pollution Light

I just got this light! Engine seems to be ok. When I saw the light I looked in the Car Handbook and it told me nothing. Just to contact your local dealer. So I called them and was told thats the Engine light. They said we can't tell you what it is with out hooking it up to our computer. I asked if I should be driving it or not. They told me until they check it out I should not be driving it. My car is just over 3 years old so no more warranty. I hope I don't get this problem as other people have metioned. Its gonna cost if I do. I will post up what they have done and if it fixes my problem. Thanks again for SEATCUPRA.NET and the other members for the info supplied here.

If the little orange engine light comes on and remains on - constant, not flashing then the car is telling you that the engine management unit has a problem logged. The car should be plugged into either a dealers diagnostic computer or find someone on here with VAG-COM. VAG-COM is a software utility which (using a compatible interface lead) can read the engine management unit fault codes and help diagnose the problem. Any dealer who just resets the light repeatedly without getting to the underlying cause of the fault being reported wouldn't be doing their job correctly IMO. The fault causing the light to come on could be minor or perhaps more serious - there are hundreds of faults which could cause the light to come on. So I'd recommend booking into the dealers or finding someone with VAG-COM.

Action - with the light flashing and the car performing really badly then that is 95% a coil pack gone mate! Happened to me six months after I got the motor, luckily it's a quick fix (they just put a new one in) and they shouldn't really charge you as (old) coil packs are a known fault on several VAG engines. Don't drive the car any further than you really have to, lots of unburnt fuel going into your cat.

Problem solved, garage were their useless selves ie no chance of getting looked at so called the Seat assistance.....AA man round in 30 mins....cyl 4 was misfiring..changed the coil and back to smooth running.

Can i only get this checked from a dealer or can any garage with the set up get it checked?

Light on sometimes

Hi i have a 2005 1.9tdi 150bhp leon. light came on 2yrs ago after i bought it and was diagnosed with heater plug gone, this happend 3 more times before it was sorted, anyway now its on again but it only comes on sometimes. if it comes on i can turn on and off the car 2-3times and then it will stay off again altogether. then i could get into car the follwing day and might not come on at all or could. to be honest iv have nothing only trouble with the car with wiper motor, header tank ,wiring problem, climate control unit, if i could sell it id never have a seat again.
