Tips to keep them good.. Use them, they don't like sitting around.

And that's a fact. When I was doing 35k a year, all I had to do was change the tyres. Now I do around 2k, and there's always some grumble or shudder from the engine bay.

Well, thought I'd see how everyone got on in the last couple of years.
Me? ASV Tdi, 260,000 ish,
Original cluch & flywheel just croaked, cambelts every 80 to 90k ish, oil & filter every 8k, one front bearing, several driveshaft boots, two hundred door lock modules, half a hundredweight of butyl mastic, couple of pounds of R134a, idler pulley, two alternator freewheels, steering rack, front wishbone bushes, seized rear wiper. Radio smashed to bits with 2Lb lumphammer. Lego pump impeller slipped & slung away. Suspension redone with Sachs dampers & lemforder bushes. Half a gallon of flea killer.
Oil consumption? Almost nil, Still averaging 50mpg, so has been a good car.

its always the securing clips on mot for the driveshaft boots that fail for some odd reason but had two boots replaced, door locks do what i do strip down and build a new one out of working parts lol

I always descend into apoplectic rage smashing out the jammed locks, so rebuilding is never an option.

Think that’s what mine was
Also replaced a front and a rear dock lock module in last 12 months.
Rear calipers has warned me it’s not long for this world with the odd bit of binding early morning starting.
Other than that I had a rear BC Racing shock go mushy.
Apex Performance had one delivered within 24 hrs and it’s going on next week.
Almost hit the dreaded 70k!!!!!

Badger5 Custom Map + TIP,
3”Custom exhaust, FMIC, Bosh 550’s, BC Coilovers, ARB’s +loads more.

Coming up to 200,000, passed every MOT with relative ease and still running on the clutch I thought would go 3 years ago, although it may not be too far off. I think my boy is getting a little tired but I'm hoping with some TLC in the summer he may give me more time. I'm not ready to part with him, ever.

Yea weird that but better than a CV joint, Them dam locks , you use tobe able to get ex genuine stock off eBay but it’s all 3rd party now and not many sellers as the rears need doing and there origanels , cancelled one seller as it never came but found another that sells 2 for £39.99 posted , it’s motors playing up on theses but definitely keeping for parts like micro switch's, I’ve had a caliper sticking , garage freed it off ok the bleed nipples can seize though, nearly 66k but using it more since mother’s car is gone :( driving miss mother lol

January 2005 54 reg FR 150 TDi

Done a little over 160k - owned since 2008 and around 85k.

What fuel cleaner are you using? Mine failed on emissions last year and I paid a garage to do it for me and the emissions ended up being half as much as the MoT limit, but if I can get a good one and do it myself, I'd much rather do that.

Hit 165k a couple of weeks ago, so that's less than 5k in three years!

If I keep this up, it'll be well below average mileage on Autotrader and will be worth at least £10k, right?

Looking what some dealers are asking for them now you’re probably not wrong. :ROFLMAO:
