Just curious what functionality the infotainment will be left with if you decide not to pay the £135 a year subscription to CUPRA CONNECT ?

It seems like the navi does most things online now ( map updates, route calculation etc )

It will be for the functions of the app (lock/unlock/tracker/on line radio etc) to continue. I think it will also be for over the air updates, traffic jam stuff etc. I will way it up when my 12 months are up and go from there. TBF for £135 is a small cost IMO, I know plenty of people who pay £40 per month just for the “next phone”. I’d rather keep my older fruit phone and cheap sim and keep the Cupra ID service if it’s something I must have. Just my opinion though.

How good is the traffic jam info and rerouting??

I allegedly have that functionality on my current car using the connection to the phone but it's utter sh1t so I end up using Waze which I have to say is spot on.

It’s worked great on mine on the two times it has activated. I’m sure I read somewhere though that it works better in rural areas, WTF !
But being an ex HGV driver I’m used to workarounds so don’t really rely on the system (y)

On my Mk3 Leon I had a reroute hit when I was in Germany. I was extremely surprised as I had no idea such system (over the radio) existed. In my country this rerouting option does not exist since on MK3 Leon it is not done via internet but via radio (my car doesn't have internet)

Are we sure this reroute on Formentor is done over the internet? They might be using the same system that VAG had from before?

Main concern is that the unit continues to function as normal if you choose not to subscribe.
Especially the satnav.
Chocolate fireguard springs to mind if the routing has to be done online.

With the older system - you had a choice to update the map SD card.
If you didn't - the satnav still worked but could potentially be out of date for some roads.

Routing was an internal thing built in to the satnav - much like a stand alone tomtom etc.

Live ( ish ) traffic was via TMC ( through the radio )

I'm not sure I will use it at all. Petrol prices are useful, but I hardly use it in current car. Used it mostly when in Europe and checking prices at different locations before the trip or when planning when to stop. For traffic, I use TomTom and plan to use it in future.

Think the satnav will still be the same, only live updates will be affected.

I'm willing to be that routing is done locally and will continue to work even without internet access.

Usually way you would do it is send the congestion data over the internet and then let each device do the calculation of the route on their own.

Has anyone tried using the Amazon Alexa features, especially Amazon Music?

Does it use mobile data from the connected phone or does it use data from Cupra Connect?

I’m also intrigued with the store icon that I’ve seen on the media system! Can you buy things or download different apps?

Thanks

Did you manage to have a look?

Thanks
The store app just states it’s “updating to bring the latest features” and I couldn’t get the Amazon bit to work. That could be operator error though mate, I’ll let you know if I get that figured out.

Thanks for checking.

The store might be to future proof the system so that new apps can be downloaded as and when they become available.

I hope the Amazon app does work as that would be really useful!

Anyone tried to use petrol prices? In my last two cars, there was submenu in navigation called Fuel Prices where I could do search for fuel prices in immediate area, around destination, along the route or chosen location. Then, petrol stations were shown sorted by price or distance. I could see cheapest one and then click on them to see prices, last update time, location, etc. This way I could find where to buy cheapest petrol in the area. I could also look up prices in different locations abroad, which was useful when planning trips.

Now, I tried to find similar menu in Formentor, but couldn't. Only way I found, is to look for petrol station and you will get results sorted by distance and if you want to check petrol price you have to check more info and then scroll down to see prices. That's very complicated way to find petrol prices, specially when driving.

Is there any easier way to find petrol prices in navigation?

Picture on Cupra website suggest that there might be another way.

I will write post about my first impressions when I'm on a computer.

I check fuel prices on Waze... really don't know what to think about navigator. Maybe its because I don't have experience with it...
