Ambient lighting in FR

Hey
I've recently bought a Mk4 Leon FR (not 1st edition) so I have the ambient lights in the door trim but not the wrap around lighting. In previous models the ambient lighting has been able to change colour, but I can't find where to do this in the settings, it's just always red. Does anyone know if the colour can be changed, or if this is one of the limitations of the FR model? Seems a bit backwards to allow something in previous models but not the new one.
Thanks

Is the car red ?. If the colour can't be changed the ambient light matches the colour of the car. Least in an Arona.

Page from the Leon 4 manual. Try this.

Thanks. The car is grey so can’t be that the lighting is matching the paint colour. I’ve been in that menu in the car and no option to change colour, only brightness, must just be how it is ??‍♂️

Hi i also have recently bought the new Leon FR expecting it to have the wrap around lighting... Salesman couldn't tell me if it did or not on questioning after trying to get it to work!!! On doing a bit of my own detective work looks like it is the FR SPORT and above models it is standard on!!! Bit pissed of at this as was qouted £265 plus vat to add it on to my car!!! Surely it is just a software update it would require as LED strip on door and dash are there present

I believe some cars dont actually have the multi colour LED fibre in them so they are fixed. The ambient variable ones do, but it's always possible that some do and they just fix it so it doesn't change.

For what it's worth here is my ambient multi colour settings in Obdeleven on an Ateca you could check them with what you have or anybody else for that matter.

Build codes

185 QQ9 VWGROUP LCP Interior ambient lighting, type 2

Reckon that is the Led strip type above rather than the software programming. That's below.

You probably need the two to get it to work. Different build code and you probably have the single colour light. May also need the infotainment unit VCDS perhaps changed as well to enable the correct menu ?. Probably look at that if the build code tallied and the ambient light unit toggled....

The Arona with the fixed colour has this build code

181 QQ8 VWGROUP LCP Interior ambient lighting, type 1

Anyhow given this is posted on the Leon 4 thread where VCDS is currently locked down not a lot you can do. Browsing the build codes of a foreign Leon 4 I see they still use type 2 so I'd say type 2 is your fancy LED assembly, type 1 is fixed. I don't believe there is latent hardware sitting in there that just needs programming even if you could, but you can't on the Leon 4.

The hardware basically seems to be a fibre strip going into a LED light. Whether the multi colour ones are red green blue with three fibre strips or bonded into one fibre strip pass. Let those that rip their panels out find out :). Studying a parts catalogue may also inform but basically if the build code

QQ8 VWGROUP LCP Interior ambient lighting, type 1 it's fixed
Ditto type 2 it's multicoloured.

The run in code might vary but its the type 1 or 2 that's important.

Build codes you get from Erwin. That's for the exacting buyers that wants to know what car they are getting that doesn't trust the dealer :). A dealer can also give you a copy of the build codes. Studying the build codes against the VIN, the model, the options resolves how the sales blurb gets mapped into the finished product.

Hi, I got my MK4 Leon FR on Monday. When I collected it the ambient lights were red, but then I had a play around in the settings and somehow I managed to change it to white. But now I can’t work out how to get it back to red! It’s not linked to the driving modes as I’ve tried that! No other colours seem to be available though.

Sure you haven't got it on automatic as per post 2 above which shows the page of the manual. Automatic tallies with the drive mode, manual you set the colour. The latter is the mib2 way of doing it with the multi colour display. Least with the firmware I got in my high unit... although there is a more recent one I note that might have introduced the automatic functionality of the mib 3.

So yes, if it follows the manual I would go into the manual method, automatic reflects the drive mode, manual you select the colour if the car is fitted out with the multi colour fibre internal door lights. Going to be that I would guess if it's kitted out with multi colour ambient light in the doors.

Failing that try rebooting the unit. Traditionally that was a long press on the on/off button. Touch panel. I did get the FeC up on a mib3 so long hold on those buttons or on some is implemented. That was the menu button, you want the on/off if implemented the same. Just touch for 5 seconds or so and see whether it reboots. Then go back into the menu and have another go.

HI. Just picked up my MK4 Leon FR and having the same problem with ambient lighting in the door. In my 2018 ARona FR I could change from white to red. Currently stuck on white in the new Leon. on the touch screen it shows individual but sometimes it says cold. It’s just plain weird. I was wondering whether I can get the wrap around upgrade as an after sales modification or is this only an option when ordering from the factory? Loving the car otherwise. Not every day you get to drive a car that has the same name as you :)

Suspect that wraparound is code for multi colour ambient lighting (my reading of it)

https://www.seat.co.uk/about-seat/news-events/cars/leon-advanced-illumination.html

"Once inside, the wraparound ambient lighting allows the user to vary both the intensity and the tone of the illumination."

I see that is on the First Edition FR. Need someone with that to resolve. I do love the build codes as well since they define what is in the car.

Seats are sold in the UK as build packets the options to pick and mix isn't there as it use to be. With VCDS mods currently being locked down on these vehicles DIY projects are somewhat suspended.

I have a fr first edition with the wraparound lighting, but have no idea on how to get build codes.

You can ask your dealer for a print out or you can spend £8 on ErWin and download all the workshop manuals whilst at it. You need the vin code.

You see the build codes in European adverts... they tend to buy and sell their cars that way so you know exactly what you are getting.

I have the same issue on a brand new FR. We only have the menu options for "Individual" or "Off". The ambient lighting is currently set to red but appeared to be frosty white on the screen display before we started to play with the menu. I can't find a way of getting it back to white (or any other colour). I cannot find any menu choices that refer to "Automatic" or "Manual".

Might be a defect in the user manual giving functionality that isnt there. Troubling you loose your ambient light colour. Feels like a bug.

I'm after people looking for the map update menu which the manual says is there for completeness of what we know about the system.

My dealer tells me the wraparound lighting is not available at the moment due to technical reasons in the factory.

Tipperary, Pierces. Be aware though, the wraparound lighting is only available as standard on the XC+, it's a €316 option on all the others despite what it says on the configurator.

Having spoken to our dealer, they have a car with exactly the same issue (on theirs, the ambient colour was red but then switched to white and can't be changed back again). They are raising the question directly with Seat.
