Hope everyone is keeping safe.
I just thought I would share this to 1. see if anyone has encountered this 2. raise it in case it helps someone in the future.
TL : DR
Cupra 300 didn't show any warning on dash/ECU after coolant leak and thermostat failure, was only detected at 20K service.
So I have a MY67 Mk3 Cupra 300.
It was due its 20k service just before the lockdown and my appointment got cancelled.
I took it in on Friday all had been running well, after an hour or two the service centre phone me and tell me apparently the thermostat housing has been leaking for a long while and nearly all of the coolant has drained from the system. Which resulted in a burnt and contaminated coolant bottle and new thermostat and housing.
Apparently this is a common fault, which is quite crazy, but they replaced all of the parts under the warranty without question, the cynic in me was expecting an argument over whether it was covered or not.
All relatively normal-ish so far, but what has left me and the dealer scratching their heads is that there where no temperature warning lights active to indicate any issues at and the car ECU hadn't detected any faults, either.
They have said they don't have a clue why there where no warnings and are putting it down to a random anomaly and have just said keep an eye on it.
It all seems quite strange, but thought i would put it out in the wild to give you guys something to ponder.
Stay Safe everyone.
