Damn, I can't find the Golf R pictures anymore.. I will share pictures of what I did:

Maybe these will help someone :)

At this point I have not noticed any drone. In Cupra/Sport mode lots of pops & bangs. Comfort mode is little bit louder than before, but not much. Motorway speeds 90 - 130 km/h nice and quiet. Comfort mode also "disables" pops & bangs, which is quite nice if you live in little quiet area.
I have a spare exhaust that I'd like to do the same to. Can I ask what additional piping was needed to achieve the final result and am I right in thinking what you have done is remove the pipe that comes back on itself and now it's more or less straight through?

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum, I live in Poland and decided to join the thread about the exhaust of the Golf R Variant in Cupra ST 4DRIVE.
My car is from 2019 with a GPF filter. I attach photographic documentation. I recommend a new diffuser made of ABS plastic from MAXTONDESIGN, it will be available soon. The diffuser can be ordered both for the original exhaust as well as for the golf exhaust, Cupra Carbon and Cupra R ST exhaust. Nice watch :)

The diffuser is designed in CAD, based on 3D scans. Then it is CNC milled. It is manufactured using the ABS plastic thermoforming method. Very good product quality. In about two to three weeks it will be available for official sale in the MAXTONDESIGN store.

I find it more suitable with 2*2 pipes instead of the oval pipes based upon your foto's. Also due to the fact that the "fin" is so far away from the oval tip, compared to the 2*2 tips.

Finally a diffuser that doesn’t need hacking or costs a small fortune now I’m interested!

I’m amazed how many people are now taking on this mod

That Maxton diffuser fixes something I never liked with the original one. This is where you could see the back edge of the exhaust tips from the side. I'd decided against fitting R back boxes for this reason, now I'm definitely interested again.

I presume the exhaust in that picture is off a golf R with ppf filter as it has no center res. Thing is there is 2 part numbers for the left hand exhaust silencer. One ends in bb other ends in bj. Is the bj number the longer center pipe with no center box.

any help would be great. Also Maxton advertise the part numbers for the exhaust and they use the bj ending part number for the left silencer.
As my Cupra has a opf filter it would be easier order the longer pipe one.

Part number and or link then?
I changed my exhaust for the Golf R one but I am obviously not so happy about the look of the cut OEM diffuser ;)
Been looking for a suitable diffuser for almost 6 months now...

What’s the fit like of the Maxton?

There is good and there is bad:
- It fits perfectly into place...

BUT!
- Lacks the same type of locking tabs the original has when inserting into the bumper slot
- Lacks any pre-drilled holes (and you do need to add a few screws + zip ties or brsckets here and there)
- Doesn't included anything else in the package except the bumper

If I had not installed the Rieger diffuser previously, I would be totally lost.

It is good quality (the Maxton) and looks good, but it can do with a few extra screws, since without those the whole thing will fly away first time you drive it fast.

I gave some feedback to the importer in Finland, but since I believe Maxton is also monitoring this thread, you got my feedback now ;)

Feel free to PM me if you want a few more details.

Overall, it is the perfect (and only...) solution for cars with the retrofitted Golf R exhaust, and I can and do recommend it, with the caveat that you do need to mod it a bit to make sure it stays secure.

Hi Folks,

I have been following up this thread for a while not but I'm still wondering if the Golf R exhaust is a significant upgrade compared to a default one on standard GPF Cupra ST.

From what I understood:

Cupra R ST GPF (blacked tail pipes)
-5F9253609BA + 5F9253 609AT (approx £1100 !)
vs
Golf R variant GPF (chromed tail pipes)
- 5G9253609BJ + 5G9253609BC (approx £400)

I'm wondering why there is a such gap between those options, both available as OEM pieces...cannot only be the tailpipe color.

Am I missing anything? Would the sound result be the same on a GPF car? Similar to a Cupra R ST (having a GPF as well).

Painting a Golf R variant GPF tailpipes would probably do the job...but...I have to find a high temp black paint that wont peel off in few months.

Thanks,
