As title suggests would there be any issues with going from 40 to 45 on the tyres speedometer aside? Not a big fan of the ride quality on 40s, and would the 45s actually increase the quality all that much? Pretty much feel the slightest uneven road surface atm vibrating through the car

I’ll keep an eye on this post as it’s something I’m wondering as well. I totally agree that the 40s are a horrible ride and next time I’m getting tyres I think I’ll be installing 45’s instead

I’ve been chasing rattles in the car for months now trying to fix them as they appear but there’s that many I think It’s easier just to replace the tyres at this point
Funny you say that mate as I’m in exactly the same position, I’m finding rattles all over the place I’m the interior, worst is the passenger seat belt catch when it’s not in use. I’m getting a real bad rattle from the rear exterior of the car when going over bumps/uneven road surfaces. I’m lead to believe it’s brake pad rattle so I’m going to order new brakes all round and see if that solves it as well as the 45’s

I agree with the harsh ride when I had my Ibiza on 'Tagus Black' 215/40 R17s. On 38/35 PSI it was unbearable, so I lowered it to 36/33, much better! I had my Mk5 Facelift Ibiza from new till 24 months, so I was fortunate nothing rattles, but it could be the facelift with 'soft touch' plastic on dashboard.
I have 215/45/17 fitted on my cupra, fit nicely i think.
Wheels fill out the well wells a bit better, as you say a bit comfier, a more common size, so a bit cheaper too.
My car is lowered and the higher tyres give an extra 1cm of ground clearance, while still maintaining the lowered stance/look.

I do hate the big wheel gap on low profiles unless it’s lowered so I think you’ve done a really good job on yours, what springs are you using?
HR Springs lowered 25mm front and 40mm rear.
Maybe feels a little "floaty" on those tyres, but nice and comfortable.
So I drove my car tonight (after it had been raining and pretty damp overall) having not driven in a few days, and every single rattle ceased to exist. I’m going to assume it’s bad bushes, as I can’t think of any other reason why the car would suddenly stop rattling other than that in damp weather as the rubber will of reacted. How many miles have you got, and have you had any bushes replaced on the rear axle?
Ye it’s a bit of a weird one that isn’t it. Are you going to re do standard bushes or upgrades? I’ve had no new bushes in the rear end, just on the front. I have been testing the rattle from the rear though and it seems to stop when I have the brake slightly applied while driving, hopefully it’s just rattling pads as I’m getting new brakes all round soon so I’m assuming the rattle will go away.

I’d just replace them with standard ones from euro car parts. Let me know how that goes if you replace them soon.
also, are your tyres run flats? (Or Reinforced), Because mine are (Dunlop sportmax). I’ve only just found out that they are reinforced which upon research is why most cars don’t come with a spare wheel anymore as they just give you these horrible hard tyres instead, I didn’t spec the car so I imagine the person who had it first had a family and said they’d need these.
I am probably going to go with 215/45 and avoid reinforced tyres at some point soon.

Do you mean XL tyres ? (Extra load tyres). Nearly all tyres at the stock 215/40 size are available only as XL. It has nothing to do with runflats or the absence of the spare wheel. It just means that due to the very low profile, the shoulder of the tyre is reinforced in order to withstand the abuse (potholes, deformation during cornering, etc).
Just got a set of 215/45 Michelin PS5 XL, replacing a set of 215/40 Michelin PS4 XL. Suspension is stock.
The look in my opinion is better. The stock tyre looked too thin.
The ride quality is a bit better but that just may be due to new rubber.
The cornering ability, again is better due to new rubber. The feeling is the same, it doesnt seem more floaty.
The speedo accuracy has changed. 130km/h on the speedometer is 130km/h on GPS, so I am happy with that.

Could fit tyres with weak sidewalls like Michelin/Uniroyal/Toyo/Avon, depends what you have at present..
