My daughters Ibiza Came without an engine cover, So I bought a 2nd hand one as it was just down the road and cheap. But I am not convinced it is the right one ? Any help gratefully received See pic of Engine, and the cover I have ?
Thats a 1.2 tdi engine cover.
Has the car ever overheated ? That white residue looks weird and I believe its from coolant overflow. Also the coolant expansion tank looks replaced and empty ! Be aware, these cars do not have a sensor for coolant level !
Ahh, so need to see what a 1.4 cover looks like . I did fill the coolant up , a couple of days ago. But I don’t see any leaks ? So not sure where the water is going ? And it’s not being used a lot at the moment ? Thanks for the reply
Well, thats not good. Coolant must be going somewhere ! There is evidence of coolant overflow, new expansion tank. A head gasket leak is not out of the question

Exactly the same. I am assuming that it has been replaced as most of them become yellow due to the heat after a couple of years. This still looks brand new.
Did you try adding coolant up to the max line and running the car up to operating temperature and then check what happens ?

I filled it up last night, and my wife drove it 3 miles to work and back, and when I got home, it was still on the max line.. Will keep an eye on it. I thought that might be why there is no heat ?? But the wife says it didn’t get look warm ? Thanks for the help, I am a total novice on cars!!
A diesel wont get to full operating temp in 3 miles. You have to drive it longer and even push it a bit harder. Do you have an obd bluetooth device ? You can use an app like torque to monitor temperature, ecu faults, etc

Usually the obd adapter is either bluetooth for android devices or wifi for apple devices. What cable do you have ? If its is for vcds and you have the software its the best choice !

Yes. Dont get an expensive one, there is no point. Some apple apps with work with a wifi adapter only, others with both bluetooth and wifi . I dont have a specific app to reccomend, I use torque and carista on android. Torque is not available on apple store and carista requires an annual membership (but free to scan for faults i think).
Just search obd on apple store and download a few free apps. For more specific vw codes, only carista and carly will work.
Edit: I just downloaded an app on my ipad called Car Scanner ELM, it was the first search result and they actually recommend a bluetooth adapter https://ibb.co/DVztg2Z
