Thanks pompeydave...cars are the one thing in my life (outside family) that I’ve always been fond of...good or bad I love them and I love a challenge trying to work things out and fix bits myself (where I can) whether to help myself and/or others. I don’t have the time I used to when I was younger (and before kids haha) but if I get a bit of spare time this is what I enjoy

I’m really happy with the Leon overall...I had a 2.0 diesel insignia elite before this which was fab and trouble free bar 2 glow plugs but after 68k can’t grumble...not as quick as the 200bhp Astra of yours but it was rather spacious and very comfy...Leon is an excellent replacement with one or two bits missing but then one or two other bits added so it all balanced out spec wise and I personally think they look great. I test drove an Astra 1.5T and although no kangaroo issues and strong engine you can see what my decision was...any of the cars you mention above should be decent in the right spec!

I believe the issue has been resolved on the newer (69 reg) 1.5’s (don’t quote me on that but I’m sure they are ok now) if you’re looking for a new(ish) motor.

Reading all these comments with owners of new, or fairly new 1.5s, I can't believe that this is denied/viewed as acceptable by the dealer network!

Hi Betts. I really hope you don't have the roo. The characteristics appear in many forms. If you start the car in the morning and immediately set off in first gear with heater and lights on, drive as slow as you can and see if it judders. Stop the car after running it for a minute or so, and then accelerate away and see if it does it again. Repeat at the next few junctions etc whilst the car is warning up. To counter the roo, in my manual Leon I had to use more clutch when setting off.

The official technical service bulletin from SEAT states 'Jerking while warming up when accelerating/releasing accelerator (only 1st-3rd gears).

The fix has allegedly been an ECU software update to version 9757 or 9832 depending on your engine Ateca variant.

Both DSG and manual cars are allegedly affected, and VAG acknowledged publicly the fault existed back in January 2019.

There is a wealth of knowledge about the fault on this forum and many many others. I have had a rooing Leon for over 18 months now, and made the mistake in not rejecting it within 6 months.

I have DSG and I had read this and once it jerked around but I put it down to me pressing the accelerator then lifting off and then doing it again confusing DSG

my wife has never had an issue and I’ve not really noticed it since.

had 4000 miles on it and was registered April 2019

I’ll give what u say a try and see if something occurs

My boot button go stuck so I emailed the second day about that and the kangaroo issue so it’s logged.

I thought it was Manuel issue so now I’m worried

Is it a really obvious thing,my wife drives a lot less harsh than me and she has said it’s lovely and smooth

Well I originally heard it was sorted on the newer ones but a post on here made reference to some people still complaining of a similar but more minor related issue with jerkiness.

The update to the 68’s supposedly fixed it and from a 69 plate on were supposed to be ok but some still say not...I’m on a 68 plate without the update and I can live with it.

If you’re really concerned I’d splash out for the 2.0 litre as I don’t think this issue affects those...just the 1.5...or maybe even try another car outside the VWAG but if you search hard enough I’m sure there is one issue or another with most cars to some extent (1.0T ecoboost had cooling issues a bit back...probably sorted now but I think it’s these little turbo engines in general).

My 69 plate 130 is fine. It takes me about 3-5 minutes to get out of my estate of a morning. Stop start to let people through, roundabouts, junctions, traffic lights never experienced an issue in 2 weeks commuting. I suppose if theres a caveat to that, I'm quite a smooth (not slow) driver. I generally get places quicker than my mrs and get 5-10 mpg more than her across all our cars. And being a mechanic for 25 years, maybe I'm more forgiving of a car when on any kind of warm up cycle. I'm not saying driving styles affect it or not but I've seen people on here moan about poor performance and mpg. I've just got out of a 1.6 diesel jeep renegade and love how my 130 is smooth, powerful enough when I need it, and virtually silent, and most of my commutes are done at 48-52 mpg.

69 plate Black Edition... bounced all the way through the traffic! I got fed up of the wobbling so spent the next half an hour of 5mph traffic halfway up the clutch in 2nd. They can either fixed the shagged clutch when they get the car back, or fix their engines!

Massive flat spot in 2nd and piss poor acceleration also an issue with mine. Pulls just as much as my friend's 1.2 208... that has 82bhp!!!

Going into the garage sometime next week for a noise coming from the rear seat anyway so will mention the rooing and performance and see what they have to say.

That's exactly how my 68 DACA is like. Traffic is horrendous. What a joke.

What engine variant do you have?

The more people that complain to their Dealer, Customer Services and the Executive Office the better. I am at whits end with them all - complete denial that the fault still exists from them all. Dealer can't even replicate the roo when they drive it.

The long awaited software update late last year did absolutely nothing to my cars roo.

I own Golf 1.5 tsi 110kw 2020 year.
I have a „kangaroo“ problem with my 1.5 tsi since first day when engine is cold. It durings about 2 minutes after engin start every day. My engine is MY20 and engine code is DPCA 110kw (two months old). Software version is 9596 and part no 05E906018AS. It seems they didnt sort this problem yet.
I also notice vibration during 2-cylinders mod, expecialy between 1400-1600 rpm. Turbo lag is present also.
I went to a car sevice and they negate (deny) this problems. In spite of that i asked them about update and they said that there is not any update for my engine.
I am very disapointed with this engine.
I read new article: https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/n...nces-fix-for-15-tsi-engine-hesitation-issues/ but author of this article is not specified about which engines (versions of 1.5tsi) are coverd with update which he mentioned. What is the version of the software he was writing about?

Just joined as I've taken delivery of a Leon FR 1.5 150 now since I got the car the next morning I put it in sport mode and since then I get slight rooing only in first gear and only for the first few minutes it's been interesting to read regarding using in normal mode which I will try in the morning but so far loving the car.

Hi Jimbo,

if you use sport mode from cold start you will definitely get the roo’ing at its worst, I wouldn’t bother with eco unless your already cruising at its nothing short of bloody dangerous!! (I have the 130ps so you do have the benefit of 20ps more) If you are at a junction or a roundabout.
Best overall is normal until the car has warmed up, you’ll still get roo’ing but it’s reduced, I’d suggest when you first start up wait for the revs to settle before driving off and also try to get your foot off the the clutch pedal as soon as you change gear.

I’m glad you are enjoying the car, overall it’s a good car and this is my 2nd, it’s design although now 8 years old still looks fresh but being a veteran of 18mth of with the 1.5 engine and this fault it has spoilt/tainted by enjoyment of it, especially early on when Seat denied there was an issue, I have had the software update (dec 19) but this has not fully solved it... and therefore as soon as I can afford it, I’ll be choosing something else, and for the first time in over 15 years I doubt it will be another Vw group car.

Hi thanks for the reply, I've now started to use the car in normal mode and all is good much smoother drive, I've now taken to letting the car settle down when I first start it before pulling away and it does make a difference really enjoying the car it does still look fresh sorry to hear your looking to move away from the brand this is my first seat and I'm in a three year lease so see how it goes.
