fill me in, I’m itching to know what’s happening haha. Hope it’s nearly resolved

I’m expecting a full update today.

Honestly, it’s quickly ruining the whole experience for us and my patience is wafer thin.

In June we walked in to our local dealer and asked them to match a price from a leasing company. To our amazement they agreed.

They couldn’t order until July 10th due to the model year change but shortly after that date it was entered and accepted by the factory. All good.

Tracked closely with SEAT CS throughout and was delighted to learn it got built week 39 and was shipped to Grimsby mid October.

The dealer had confirmed that we’d get price protection due to the fact that we’d tried to order with MY19 prices. As soon as it arrived at the dealers last Tuesday they suggested it would be ready on the Friday (last week) and that we could collect after 11am.

I went for a nosey at it on the Wednesday and was told everything would be good for Friday and they were waiting for “Agency Approval” which takes circa 48hrs. I reconfirmed the price was as agreed and was told “absolutely”. I began to feel uneasy. Couldn’t put my finger on it.

Agency approval is just their term for finance approval. I’ll add that this isn’t anything to do with our credit file and just down to figures not adding up on their system. “Computer says no!”

Friday came and we were waiting for my wife’s meeting to finish. I called the dealer to say we’d be an hour and at that point they told me they still hadn’t had agency approval and to wait for a call.

At 3pm I went in and no progress had been made. I sat there on the phone to VWFS and just got passed around with zero progress or explanations for over an hour and had to leave the dealership walking past our car that had been prepped for us.

Monday came and the dealer hadn’t returned my calls so I got SEAT UK involved. Through piecing together info from all parties I’ve concluded that the dealership are being told by VWFS that they can’t honour the price and that it has to be treated as a current Q4 deal.

There was a price increase between MY19/20, and the car has a lower Guaranteed future Value which has created a £3k difference between their new quote and the initial deal price.

SEAT UK have so far been very good, although there still isn’t a solution on the table. I was reassured Tuesday night that they would be sorting it one way or another and that we would be getting the deal we agreed on the car ordered.

So here we are, with our car sitting dormant in a compound less than a mile away from where we live, still unsure when, or even if we will take delivery of the vehicle.

The deal that we agreed upon was very similar to the current one on Leasing Options that many of you are taking advantage of. I wish I had too.

It seems that Lease companies are getting price protection but my dealership can’t.

Let’s see what they put on the table later today.

Surely your contract still stands whether a verbal contract or not. They offered you the car at a price and you accepted the offer. The fact that they have built and delivered the car to the dealership rather suggests to me that the intention was to sell you the car on the pre-agreement you had with the dealer.

You would think that wouldn’t you. As I say, I’m awaiting a substantial update by close of play tonight.

So those on here with cars currently at port in Barcelona awaiting shipping, don’t take it for granted they will be shipped soon.

According to Seat CS this morning there is a massive backlog of cars in Barcelona. They have a ship arriving tomorrow (Comet Ace) and the Pegasus Ace on the 17th Nov. However they’ve advised me that just because your car is at port (mines now been at the port for almost 4 weeks) that they cannot guarantee it will be on either of these ships due to the backlog.

Apparently there is no priority system. They basically drive the cars onto the ship from the front of the queue.

When asked (given I’ve been waiting since June for this car) of mine could be prioritised I was told not. I would simply have to keep calling after each ship has left to see if it’s made it on.

I give up. I don’t want this car now after all this. Starting to look at other cars.

Hi all, not posted for a while as I’ve been away.

However, I have a confirmed build week of 18th November. This was confirmed around 2 weeks ago.

Ordered 10th August grey standard Cupra 290 through Seat Dealership.

It really is a joke, I doubt I will ever order a new car in the future after this experience. I get the impression that Seat use the same logic when collecting the cars from the port here, they just pick up the first X amount of cars they see and take them to the suppliers.

Honestly this sticky is more dramatic than corrie. What a sh*tshow from SEAT this is turning out to be! Despite my moaning I am now just thankful I have a delivery day and gobsmacked at some experiences for you guys.

Pfedestarke I’m expecting your next move to be threaten with lawyers or Citizens advice. That is disgraceful.
Mildnanneredjon It seems my month extra with no car seems like a drop in the ocean now and I feel a bit like a spoilt child now lol

You'd think given the evident backlog at the port they would at least pull in another ship from somewhere to get a couple more shipments on the go...
