Hi,

I picked up my brand new Seat Leon Cupra 290 on Friday, I've done around 200 miles in it & I've yet to hear any sort of exhaust pop/ bang or the DSG farts you usually do hear.

I watched a few videos on these before I got it and the exhaust was said to be louder than the S3.

Any reason it isn't? Does it just need driving in a bit longer?

From what I read in the dsg you need to be in sport mode. Also is it one of the new cars with GPF? I’ve heard people say they are notably quieter..

New 290 is a lot more suppressed due to WLTP regulations. Some have found after a few thousand they change tone, some have found the only way is with a resonator delete.

Have a read over this thread, you may pick up tips and ideas for the noise.

May also me some stuff here :)

The issue is I'm on a lease so I can't mod anything like that. I'm hoping I will get the DSG farts after a few hundred more miles

So are a fair few of us, although I haven’t personally gone for the chop yet!

Check with your lease provider, may be a decent one. A res delete can be ‘put back’ before hand back

I've done approx 1,200km in my 290 and, while DSG farts are rare, I've had a few when in Cupra mode and shifting manually. It also pops on overrun. I've yet to fully push the car on yet either.

My 290 is just shy of 5000 miles now, exhaust has definitely gotten louder and it will dsg fart on upshifts quite loud now but has been farting from day one when i picked it up from stockport on 10 miles. You don’t even have to fiddle with the modes.. knock the gear lever down into s and floor it.. it will fart. I have found however that when in manual mode and using the paddles it is reluctant to fart unless you are reaching maximum rpm in each gear. My previous 300 sounded way better.. and would fart more or less when you wanted it to when using the paddles.. even when in auto and cruising about and not flooring it you would get random farts leaving traffic lights etc. This is something i doubt even a res delete could replicate in the new 290 but don’t worry.. after about 2000 miles it gets deeper and the farts louder.

My 2019 290 Cupra has done 350 miles.

I had a res delete fitted on second day of ownership.

Today I was doing some testing, at stationary in neutral in sport and Cupra modes, oil temp around 105c I am getting pops and bangs on revs.

Getting very few dsg farts at moment but hope my exhaust beds in after a few weeks.

I cant comment on the latest 290... But my 300 upshift " farts " are so much less intrusive than my 280.

I don't know weather it's development/progression or the GPF in the case of the 290. But the 280 farts for me were too much. Especially with a res delete.

Make sure it's in cupra mode, you should get lift off pops and a crack on an upshift ( again, don't know how much the new 290 GPF affects that ) if not enough, do a res delete, keep the parts and put it back to standard before it goes back.

Hope this helps

I've done 1400 miles in my Copra now and it's definitely not quiet. It's been popping since the first day but the crackling is getting a lot louder. Driving around town in sport mode (keeps revs between 2000 and 3000) it crackles all the time. It doesn't matter what mode I'm in as long the revs are in that range it's really loud. Loud enough for people to turn around and loud enough for my wife to hate it[B)] It's there at higher speeds but the tyre noise makes it hard to hear. And after pulling out of my garage in the morning and getting out to close the garage door, it's loud enough for all the neighbour's to hear:whistle:

3000 revs is the magic number for me, pops then when slowing down from above 3k

@Laurbach do you have a res delete ?

Nope it's completely standard... I like it as it is now, don't want it to get too loud. Just need to get the soundaktor turned off so I can hear it in Cupra mode

The MY19 5dr hatch is consistent with overrun crackles I'm on 2k mileage but I had them from the start.

In sport or Cupra mode (make note of the DSG box mode as it needs to be S) rev to over 4k and lift off the gas.

To force them whilst moving: override the DSG box with the paddles i.e downshift.

Or

Try slowing down, dropping to M1 and then rev to 4k. As it drops from 4k - 3k you should hear them like clockwork.

The DSG bang is harder to produce but it's still there.
