Service History of a Mk2 CR170 @ 50K

Hey folks,

Having been out of the VAG game for a while, I'm potentially going to look at a car this weekend - a Mk2 Leon CR170. It's done just over 50K miles which is low for the year of the car (2012).

Can anyone advise what you'd have expected to see in the service history of a car like this? I'm presuming that cambelt would have been at 4yrs (so due another one soon??) and I'd expect new brake discs and pads fairly recently. (From searching, cambelt schedule isn't clear to me)

Are the water pumps still a common failure? From my SEAT history they were always an issue on mk1's and the ibizas - just not sure if they began using the metal impellar versions in the newer models.

And would you be surprised if a coil spring had broken at around 40k miles? Sounds quite early to me, wondering if it may have had a smack or hit a large pothole or something similar....

Have you checked it's mot history online? I always do that. It gives you an idea of how a car is being looked after (or completely neglected). Cambelt and water pump are usually changed together.

Thats mega low miles on a diesel, I'd be worried it would have done nothing but short trips it's entire life and have issues with EGR and DPF.

Cambelt may/may not have been done, probs best to stick one on there.

Only thing I'd look for is the cambelt, mines a 2012 and has required nothing special from a service point of view.

My cambelt was done at 5yrs, as per SEATs recommendation (based on age not mileage), this gave me another 5 years warranty on it.

After that fault fixing is car specific, mine needed a whole new EGR right at the end of it's warranty period, but I'm sure there are many many cars that haven't required this.

Providing it's been serviced to at least the standard SEAT recommend*, I would worry more about the quality of the car.

*I've changed the oil filter annually rather than every 2 years as it's only £10 for the part.

All over the MOT history, always use that. Doesn’t look too bad tbh, first 3-4yrs was doing 6k a year but must have changed owner as ramped up to 13k/year after that. Last year tho it only did 2k which is an area of interest - something to probe about. Condition wise when I looked at it in person briefly last week it was very very tidy inside and out. Almost looked new, including engine bay.
I’ll be doing 13-16k a year in one so it’d get a chance to stretch its legs :)
Will check service history if I get to view it this weekend.

So I’ll be back in a SEAT within a week :)
I’ve purchased the car, and they are doing the cambelt and gearbox oil change, along with an alloy refurb and a couple of other minor bits.
The car is in great shape really, although the one thing that is a concern is that whilst it has full SEAT service history, there is no record of the cambelt being done previously. But as I’ve got them to change that now (although they’ll use an Indy as opposed to SEAT) it should be less of a worry.

Looking forward to picking it up soon!

No need to worry about the previous cambelt if it's being done now, it has little to no bearing on when the next one will be done.
