I have owned a few modified cars in the past and have always wondered what (if any) performance impact the changes made were having. So starting with the Cupra I decided to try and measure the difference.
Times were measured using OBD/GPS app so not entirely scientific but theres a consistency to the results which would appear that they are semi-accurate.
So starting with stock runs 30-70mph, I ignored 0-60 as low speed traction is a bit of a limiting factor on these also did not want to subject the car to an endless run of hard launches:
11/5 dry flat 4.45
13/5 dry flat 4.368
13/5 dry flat 4.444
22/5 dry flat 4.486 22/5 dry flat 4.436
22/5 dry flat 4.543
Average for dry flat runs(6): 4.45
30-70mph of 4.45 seems to be inline with what I have seen in most publications.
1) First Mod a Revo Stage 1 remap, this improved time by over half a second
RevoStage1Remap (-0.55sec)
28/5 dry flat 3.903 (stage1)
2) Next mod 034 motorsport dogbone insert and played around with traction control settings, both did seem to help a little with consistently better times.
Torque Insert & TCS off
10/6 3.861 (stage1 + torque insert)
12/6 3.837 (stage1 + torque insert)
12/6 3.898 (stage1 + torque insert)
Average 3.86 (3runs)
3) Next up a set of PS4S tyres , noticeably improvement in grip
Michelin PS4S Tyres (-0.35sec)
23/12 3.626 (stage1 + torque insert + PS4S)
23/12 3.551 (stage1 + torque insert + PS4S)
23/12 3.452 (stage1 + torque insert + PS4S)
23/12 3.574 (stage1 + torque insert + PS4S)
Average 3.55 (4runs)
So from stock 4.45 to 3.55 all in all an improvement of 0.9 of a second. This puts the car in a fairly impressive bracket when compared to other machines. These were mainly taken from autoexpressUK or Revo website
Car 30-70mph
BMW M4 Competition/AMG C 63 S Coupe/Audi RS5 3.3
Audi RS3 (367PS) 3.53
Cupra (Stage1 + torque insert + MichelinPS4S) 3.55
Porsche 718 Cayman S PDK / BMW M2 DCT 3.6
Lotus exige sport 350 3.7
MERCEDES A45 AMG 3.8
Alpine A110 Premiere Edition 3.9
KiaStinger v6/ Porsche 911 Carrera S/ Audi R8 v8 (1st gen)/ Aston v8 Vantage 3.9
Cupra (Stage1) 3.903
Alfa Romeo 4c 4.0
Audi S5 4.0
BMW M135i Automatic(2012) 4.0
Honda Civic Type R GT / Golf R 4.3
Cupra (Stock) / Jaguar XKR 4.45
Hawkeye WRX prodrive power pack 5.2
Have since fitted R600 intake kit & revo 19inch alloys which are considerably lighter than stock 19" (around 3kg per corner). Waiting on weather to improve and octane booster to run high quality fuel map to see if there are any further gains. At the moment I think traction is becoming the limiting factor so only expecting marginal gains if any over the above.
