56k and now the time for new discs n pads on my beloved SC Cupra. Standard brakes are good enough but stealers prices are ridiculous (over 350 just for the fronts - thats plus fitting)

Seen some EBC front discs on EBAY for 155 and think i may go for these - i need some help with pad choice. Not gonna have EBC pads as i hated the green stuff ones i had on my previous Cupra. Not going with Ferrodo either as i didn't like them on my MK1 LCR (this is my 4th Cupra since 2001!)

Any other ideas? any experiences with Brembo pads or others - just looking for decent stopping power equivalent to stock.

Many thanjs

Well, I'll put it out there. I use Pagid pads on my Cupra. They cost me <£50 for the set. Admittedly I have the Vagbremtechnic J Hook discs and brembo calipers with it. But even the mot tester commented he nearly put himself through the windscreen getting it to the brake rollers.

I looked at many types / brands of pad. I couldn't justify paying £200+ just for pads. Plus, track specific pads 1- require higher temperatures to work correctly and 2- invalidates some car insurances! Add to that the extra noise and dust. But I've had no issues with the Pagids. Failing that maybe look at Tarox?

Disc wise, I love my Vagbremtechnics. Although I heard they might be rebranded mtecs (which are cheaper). Just be careful the mtecs aren't the cheap copy. I also liked the look of Tarox / Zerosixty if I had to pick another brand.

IME a lot of places consider Pagid OE replacements

That's what both my Ibiza and Leon had at disc/pad replacement time. No complaints, I would fit them again.

This is something I’m pondering on the VWROC forum for my Golf and came back with a few suggestions. One set up that seems to work well as a fast road set up is Tarox F2000 discs (grooved) and Tarox Strada pads. The pads are supposed to work well from cold. I’d be inclined to upgrade brake fluid too. Avoid drilled discs because unless they’re decent, forged items, they’ll crack. I was also pointed in the direction of Vagbremtechnic J hook discs so they also seem to get a good press!
