Modifications straight after buying a new car

It's a really good question. My Cupra wasn't new, but new to me. I went from a 200bhp FR+ to a 265bhp Cupra. Previously all my cars were <100bhp. I think for me it falls into two categories. Speed and handling.

Speed, I figured +65bhp = 15% smile... therefore + another 30bhp = 23% smile. So it was all about seeing what the car was capable of. Stage 2 was a bit of a lull for me as I didn't really enjoy it. But driving out of the garage with the 2+ on it, it had all been worth it as I proved on the first dual carriageway. In my opinion, speed is more for the lower bhps. Eg I mapped my 170 to 200. If I had a Cupra 300, I'd likely do Stage 1 and leave it alone. But I also think 370bhp is enough for my MK2 with its limited electronic diff. I have no real desire to make it go any faster.

If we're talking handling mods. I believe my car in the hands of a better driver could achieve awesome potential. I have excellent reactions. But I lack a lot of driving skill. Eg, I can't tell how fast is too fast for a corner until I feel the wheels have already started to slide. And then I lack the knowledge to know what to do to correct it. Bet I'm filling everyone with confidence of me being on the roads! LOL. So I've therefore spent money on handling mods to compensate for my admitted lack of driving skill. I believe if it wasn't for uprated roll bars and ESP, they'd have been pulling my FR+ and my Cupra out of a ditch.
No offence intended, but you really need to do some advanced driver training, very soon. What you've written here tells me you have a big crash in your future.

That’s ingenuity for you. Class
What I like even more, is although the letters are the same height and width, they aren’t quite as thick/deep as the CUPRA ones. So they’ll sit a bit flusher to the body.

Just got to decide whether to debadge the rest. Pretty sure the 4 drive badge is going. Just got to decide on the flag and 300

No offence but I find it highly amusing that someone the forum is saying is from Australia is commenting on driving ability!

I surely hope you’re not as bad as most of the drivers over there :D

I noticed that Seat is one of the missing brands in Oz :(

At the risk of a bit of backlash from the community - Why do people modify their cars (be it FR, Cupra et al) within the first week/month of purchase?

These cars (especially the Cupra) have lots of power as standard but yet I see lots of people changing exhaust set ups and adding Stage 1’s without ever getting to know their new car. Why?

My Cupra 300 is powerful enough for me as stock (coming from an Mk3 FR 150) and all I have had planned is a Front Splitter, New Tyres (PS4S) and a Racingline Dog Bone Mount and I’ve had it since June.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s your car and you can do what you want to it and I’m not saying you shouldn’t do the mods. It’s just the car hasn’t even been able to show you what it can do stock before it’s modded.

A very perceptive question. Over the years I've lost interest in modifying vehicles. I fitted a supercharger kit to my MX5, it was quick but needed regular fettling. I've modified my Suzuki Bandits for more power and better handling, but that was easy. My GT86 only had a foam filter added. My current bike only has suspension mods. The Cupra will only get a set of PS4's, I can seldom use all it's power on our roads anyway.
There is always a downside to mods, if only the money that you will never get back.

Go with just the Carbon. Sell the badge and 300 to someone who has bought a new 290

Yes that would be funny. Except I'm in NZ, and Kiwi drivers are worse than Aussies. But I have the benefit of very good high speed driver training. The Government tends to be very strict about that when they give you authority to drive in traffic at any speed you deem appropriate. In cars, and on bikes, for several years on Aucklands Motorways and I survived.
But we do have SEAT they don't. we're also better at rugby if that matters. It doesn't to me.
Besides, did the Maypacks post not send chills down your spine?

the mod thing I see as pointless is the person who buys a brand new 1.2 for example and immediately wants to mod it cos it's too slow.
Buy the higher power model in the first place.
Also they are modding a brand new car so that's the warranty out the window.

Apologies! I was on my phone and the flag was too small for me to realise it wasn't Oz. Sad to hear the driving is worse

I bought the black BOCANEGRA badge for £20. Cheaper than a black CUPRA badge. (Why the hell is it chrome on the carbon!!!)

I was sitting here for ages trying to work out how buying a Bocanegra badge would help you get Carbon letters. 16 seasons of 8 out of 10 cats does countdown. It appears I've not got any better... at all...
