Hi, I have decided that i will need to replace my PS pump. I think i am going to get one from a scrapped vehicle (rear end collision) so the ps pump shouldnt be damaged and they guy said it comes with a 3 month warranty. As the pump i am getting is off a 2013 ibiza (mines a 2014) will i still need to code the part or should it work straight on connected no coding needed?? My part number is 6R0423156c. I have seen other pumps ending in A,B, AB ect. Whats the difference and what do u guys think i should do as the one from scrapped car is only £80!

It should work. I think. But if possible get a C.

My original was a 6R...156 now I hwve a 6R...156c

Dont buy a 6Q....

I bought a C just in case mine fails again last year for around 90€.

Edit : im not sure. I would get a C or at least B if possible.
Im afraid they could have added new codes between revisions but b and c are fine almost for sure

Thanks man, ill buy a C pump as thats whats on my ibiza at the moment. Do they just break due to water ingress/getting inside the pump electrics?? Do you think the new pump will need coding if the new pump is coming off an ibiza 2014 (same as my car)?? Thanks mate

Yes water ingress is their wrost enemy, and the ibiza mkes things worse by channeling the water from the bonnet corners to the pump location

no need if both have ESP or both don't.

Thanks mate, the one i bought has 3 plug connectors and plugs going to them as the scrap guy just cut the plugs off but my old one only has the big power connector and the plug to the left of the power connector, the plug on the right is a blank on mine do you know why this is??? Thanks mate (thay both have the same part number aswell)

Yes.

Unfortunatly that means you will need coding.

The cars without esp have a sensor in the steerjng rack, and with esp in the steering wheel, that extra cable goes to the steering rack.

The ones with three cables dont have esp and the ones with two have.

Yours should have there a sealed connector without cable.

Remove the connector without cable from your car old pump and put it in the new pump otherwise water will come inside the pump though the connector.

And then you will need to change the code.

From somethig like x01xx to x12xx where the x is to keep.

Without changing the code you will get a light in the dashboard and the power steering will work at safe mode, around 50% or less.

I was told if i got the incorrect part number pump (for example ending in a B) i will have to de code it from the old car (the scrap car) to be able to code it to my car. Will this be the same case with this pump (its got the same part number as my old one) as the scrap car its off dosent have ESP and mine does?? Thanks pal

that is incorrect even for the one ending in a B.

you can fit it and code it later.

it is very very simple to code it if you have the cable and software. it is just necessary to change two numbers as I told above.

i would need to buy a ross tech vcds cable wouldnt i which run at about £300 and then download the ross tech coding software for my pc?? I was told by one of my local mechanics that the old pump would need to be decoded off the old car if the part number is different but he isnt a VAG specialist. did you code your own and with what hardware/software?? thanks mate

btw my car is an ibiza FR so will there be a different code as i have gotten the new pump from (scrap car) a 1.4/6 diesel ibiza i think

go to a dealer or vw specialist and they will code it without problems.

as I said the part about having to decode it from the old car if the part number is different is incorrect.

i will probably go to a dealer and get it coded as i dont have the hardware or money to spend on the hardware either haha. So i can just install the PS pump as normal ito my car, plug it in and it should be running at about 50% and still have the light on the dash. I then take it to a dealer and they can code it to my car even though the scrapped car didnt have esp and mine does? thanks so much for your help aswell btw you have been so helpful words cant explain :)

yes, you can fit it and code it later.
it will work with less assistance until you code it.

remember when fitting use G004000M2 oil, otherwise you will damage the steering rack.

Brilliant ill fit it tomorrow morning and hopefully the dealer will still be open if not then thats a job for next week to code it. i dont understand why my local mechanic said that the old one will need decoding though. How many pumps have you replaced?? Cheers mate

It was pretty easy to fit the plugs were the hardest bit to get off without snapping the red tab haha. Thanks for all your help again mate you have been so so helpful :)

Yes it needs the coding I mentioned above.

Did you break the connector? I didnt understood...

You just needed to push the red thing up to remove it.

Also dont forget... did you put the sealed connector on the unused plug from your old pump into the new pump? Thats necessary otherwise water will get in though there.
